Spend your day doing something most people wouldn't dream of trying - a day of learning mountaineering and ice skills! If you've ever had an interest in learning the basics of what it takes to climb a big mountain, this is the event for you. Our experienced mountaineering guides will be taking us through a set of basic mountaineering and ice skills at beautiful Ricketts Glen State Park (2.5 hours from Center City).

You may have been to the park in the summer, but this is a whole new ball game! As of December, the park is closed to all except registered ice climbers and experienced hikers with the proper gear, including crampons, an ice axe, and rope. We'll be among the few who test our skills and nerve in the park on ice and snow.

Our guides will teach us how to move on snow using crampons, basic ice climbing technique (conditions dependent), and basic mountaineering skills including anchor building and belaying. They'll teach us anything the group wants to learn, and the course our day takes depends on our interests.

Detailed directions and carpool information will be sent to all paid registrants 2-3 days before the event. This even is 2.5 hours away from Philadelphia. Act fast.  The first event sold out in less than 12 hours.

Gear and Clothing: The guides will provide crampons, an ice axe, ropes, and anchor building tools. You are responsible for food and clothing. Please dress in layers for the weather! The guides will also provide mountaineering boots. But you will need good hiking boots to get to the wall.
