Hike and Ice Cream

Summer tiiiime and the living is ee-asy. Man oh man, summer is here and what goes better with summer than hiking. Well, maybe one thing and that is ice cream. So, on this trip we have both!

We will be following the Northkill Creek and its tributaries up Blue Mountain to Sandy Spring. Let's hope we get some rain the week before. Because, if we do, the Sandy Spring trail comes alive with countless little mountain streams. With rain and warm weather, the streams should be babbling.

After we reach the Sandy Spring, we will head up onto the ridge to check out a narrow little vista and catch our breath. We will take the Tom Lowe trail back down for a nice 6ish mile loop. This trail winds up and down the walls of a shallow gorge for a total elevation gain of about 850 feet. All in all, it should take us 2-3 hours.

Make sure you bring shoes you do not mind getting wet. We will cross many little streams and, if we get some rain, the Northkill Creek may be high enough that you will have to wade.

After the hike, we will head into Hamburg for some great home made ice cream! After all, you will have earned it.

This hike is limited to 15 people. Only the first 15 to pay get to go.

Payment: we require payment in advance for this event. visit and find the event on the calendar to submit payment.

A lot of bugs on this hike, but luckily they weren't really biting. After a heavy rain, this would probably be a really cool hike cause there are a ton of streams along the trail. Ice cream was very good too!

You get what you pay for. If you just want to meet people in the woods, than you can do that. We put a lot more into TerraMar and that costs money to maintain. We pay for all of our leaders to be certified in Wilderness First Aid and they bring water, snacks and a first aid kit to the hikes. They are also required to learn how to hike every trail before they lead it. They know where they are going and where the cool features are. Saturday that meant hidden artworks, Sunday a secret vista.

I'm interested in this hike. Quick question, what is the $15 fee for? Can I pay tomorrow? Thanks!
