This is a 6 week course, held on consecutive Thursday evening, commencing at 7pm.
Instructor: Dale Rio
Skill level: Intermediate
PPL’s Photographic Foundations course or the equivalent*
Location: The Lightroom
Film photography is important not only to those who shoot film, but to digital photographers who desire a thorough comprehension of the medium of photography. Shooting film forces students to put aside their auto setting “training wheels” and become intimately familiar with the mechanics of manual settings. It also allows students to explore the source of digital tools, such as contrast control and burning and dodging, and revel in the physicality of printing.
B&W I will immerse students in the basics of B&W photography. Lectures and slideshows will lay a technical and historical foundation, and shooting assignments will give students the opportunity to explore the different techniques and theories discussed. In the darkroom, students will learn to process film, and make contact sheets and enlargements.
Whether you’re a film aficionado or a digital shooter who wants to take your work to the next level, B&W I is for you!
This class is limited to four students.
Registration deadline is end of day on Sunday, September 29th.
* Please note: If you have not taken Photographic Foundations but have previous experience, please contact the instructor to discuss eligibility. ([masked])
