Over three billion people worldwide lack access to energy to meet their basic needs such as cooking meals, lighting homes, or having safe water to drink. This debilitating energy poverty is the root cause of many of the world’s preventable illnesses, and deplorable living conditions.
Since 1998, Trees, Water & People (TWP) has been helping communities overcome the social, economic and environmental challenges associated with energy poverty through a community-based approach to development.
TWP's work is guided by two core beliefs:
- Natural resources are best protected when local people play an active role in their care and management; and
- Preserving local ecosystems is essential for the ongoing social, economic, and environmental health of communities everywhere.
Richard Fox, co-founder and Executive Director of TWP, will highlight the organization's international development work, showing how their clean cookstoves, Cleantech products, and community reforestation efforts are empowering communities to be stewards of their environments while improving their lives and increasing their ability to function and work in a rapidly changing world.
Wine, beer and light snacks will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there!
