Inaugural Accessibility Forum Meeting

** Update ** We will holding the meeting in 45P.  Someone will be available to meet people as they come into the Comcast Center lobby.

Welcome everyone to the Philadelphia Accessibility Forum!  Our first meeting will be on Tuesday, April 30th at 6pm in the Comcast Center.  We will be having a roundtable discussion about some of the experiences and challenges we have had in developing accessible technology.  The discussion will be facilitated by Andrew Larkin, Software Engineer for Comcast, who will be describing some of the recent work Comcast has done in developing accessible website solutions.

Food will be provided, so come join us for a lively discussion.  Hope to see you there!

Thank you all for a great conversation! It was great to meet you all in person. I'm really looking forward to continuing this dialog and working towards making Philly a hot spot for universal design. A few great points that came out of last night's discussion:

Pete and Joe have posted some resources below. In addition, we also discussed the Apple accessibility page ( In addition, the DHTML Style Guide from AOL describes many common web patterns and how to make them accessible (

We spoke a lot about simplifying interfaces and finding alternative ways to display data, particularly in a grid.

We also discussed ways to make accessibility part of our career paths as developers and designers.

I've already started planning next month's event. I'll keep you all posted!

    Thank you again!

Yes, great discussions last night, and great meeting everyone.

Excited we can potentially be at the forefront of some things discussed and help move the ball ahead even further.
Looking forward to the next one!

Nice to meet everyone last night.

Here is a really good resource for getting started in Accessibility:

Also, this ShopTalkShow episode with Derek Featherstone was really great:

They had a good convo about grouping <nav> anchors in <ul>'s vs not, amongst other things.

An excellent start to a group that has the potential to make a significant contribution to the overall experience of web users.
