February MeetUp: Never Let Me Go

Come join us for a discussion about Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

We will meet at Chapter House Cafe on 9th St. between South and Bainbridge.

We will be wrapped up by 8:30pm.

$10 Barnes and Noble Gift Certificate Give Away!--Each month, the organizer will ask a question from our reading. The person to answer correctly will win a $10 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble!

March's MeetUp can be found here.

Note - ***please avoid No-Shows*** -- do your best to not take up a Yes spot unless you are sure you can be there - we generally have a full house! If your RSVP changes, please update it on the site accordingly. Finishing the book is ideal but not a requirement, as we often juggle a lot in the day-to-day! We do, however, appreciate attendees attempting to complete the book, as it makes for a fuller discussion. Our talks as well as our book choices are always quite varied and enriching.

I bought up the question of whether or not the book takes place in a parallel universe. The film-makers thought so, evidently. The imdb cites two title cards in the film: one states that the technology was invented in the 50s, and the other states that by 1967, average human life expectancy was 100 years. This, at least, gets us off the hook. We didn't make those most inhumane and crazed legal decisions or vote for people who did. Those people in the other universe get all the blame.

I apologize for the last minute cancellation, but I'm not feeling well plus I did not finish the book. I hope to join again soon.

I'm selfishly half hoping this gets rescheduled due to the weather, since I didn't get to finish the book, drat! May we apply the payment to the next meeting, if it does? In spite of my own shameless prefererence, I hope you all get to carry on.

Shoot, I got my dates mixed up. Even if I didn't mind going out in nasty conditions, I haven't read the book. May e March.

Is this still going on with the ice storm and all? I definitely want to make it down!

Are there many, or even any, attendees over 60?

Hi. I'm 54, but getting there fast! :) I wouldn't let the age thing stop you, especially at a book club meetup.

Hi Barbara, I'm also a fellow post-50 year old. :)

All, I bought two extra used copies of next month's book, Fifth Business, at Book Trader. I will bring them to Wednesday's meeting.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
