Great fun. Looking forward to the next one.

Link to a video I mentioned... I did the song last April, and the video in October. This is the only INTENTIONALLY funny song I've written. Most of the music is programmed, the harmonica and acoustic guitar are "real". Vocals too :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=br4RkwGYkBA&list=UUAtW_pzAlKIZ7mz9Q_WTELQ&feature=share

Funny video! Song sounds like there may be a bit of Lemonheads influence there.

I was thinking of doing "Children of the Revolution" by T. Rex or "Cruel To Be Kind" by Nick Lowe. Does anyone know either of those songs?

That's cool. Unfortunately, I realized it's kind of fast for me.

You can ALWAYS slow things down. Particularly when there are rapid or complex chord changes, it's totally acceptable to play it slower. And in fact, since most people don't know that much about playing guitar, it's easy to keep that slower pace and and show everyone how you're trying to turn an upbeat pop or rock song into a moody indie thing :-) At least for me, I usually have a hard time not playing too fast when it's something I know, so throwing in a few things I don't, or something complicated, helps keep my tempo from speeding up as the night goes on.

Also, I mentioned SoundCloud, and found that at least a few of the group didn't know about it. This is a site for posting your own "sounds"... usually original music. It's in a way a little like YouTube for music, but unlike YouTube it's not a bunch of people posting other folks' stuff. Covers are ok. So I have lots of random stuff up there: original songs, live recording, things I've done with other people, music from some online classes I've taken, and an album I recorded and produced for a now-defunct Princeton area band ("The Funkin' Soul Nuts"). Just like it's good to play with other people, it's good to record yourself. You get a different perception of your playing as a listener. And it snapshots your progress. Anyway, my link is here: https://soundcloud.com/hazydave

I had a great time. Great bunch of people. Good music. What more could I ask for? Oh, and being probably the beginnerest, (like my invented word?), I feel these meetups are helping me to improve my guitar playing.

I think your strumming has improved in just the two times I've played with you. I'm not a beginner and these meetups help me improve also. Great fun, too!

Thanks Jerry. I've been working on strumming with a heavier pick which made me realize that my pick strumming needed work. With a lighter pick, I was able to get away with sloppy pick work. Also, your advice on House of the Rising Sun that it was 6/8 time helped because I got my instructor to help me with Playing Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah which is also in 6/8 time.

Looking forward to tomorrow. I uploaded 4 simple songs, but I won't be bringing hardcopies. I hope there will be uploads or suggestions, so I can be better prepared. See you tomorrow! -bg

Hi all you good people!!! What do you all think of doing Neil Young's "Heart of Gold"? super easy with the unfortunate quality of living inside your brain, for days. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

Phyllis, please let me know if you need the leadsheet. I'll be happy to upload it. - bg

Hi Bob, that would be most awesome of you!! The rest of the world is 21st century but I've barely made it through the 20th, so no printer I'm afraid. I'm too stubborn that way.
