Shooting portraits ambient and reflected light! Art Museum area.

This location is shown only to members

There was a suggestion with lots of interest to have this sort of meetup/workshop. I am hoping that some of the members who suggested it or had interest in it might join in to volunteer and lead it. I am tentatively posting for February 4th, a Saturday around 10am..we can go out for pizza for lunch and have time to socialize and network... (and get warm after)......

** UPDATE  later the same day posted!.. .. WE HAVE 2 PEOPLE WHO HAVE AGREED TO HELP OUT WITH GROUPS. THERE IS A GREAT RESPONSE TO THIS EVENT SO IF WE CAN GET ANOTHER GROUP LEADER WE CAN ADD A FEW MORE SPOTS. OR POST IN THE COMMENT AREA BELOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SET UP THIS SAME KIND OF WORKSHOP ON AN ADDITIONAL DATE. WE CAN EVALUATE WHAT TO DO BY THE RESPONSES WE GET.

THANKS! HILLARY, NATASHA AND NICK

------------------------------------------------

12.12.11 ANOTHER UPDATE!

WE HAVE ADDED 2 MORE LEADERS SO WE INCREASED THE NUMBERS OF SPOTS TO 32. THIS WILL ALLOW US TO BREAK UP INTO 4 GROUPS OF 8 FOR THE WORKSHOPS. PLEASE KEEP YOUR RSVP UP-TO-DATE AND LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO ATTEND SO THE SPOT CAN BE OPENED FOR SOMEONE ELSE. LOOKS LIKE THIS WILL BE A POPULAR OUTING!

THANK YOU!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please make sure everyone knows this is an OUTDOOR shoot.  Dress accordingly!! :)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.31.12 - Update - There are now 6 group leaders and hopefully 6 models so we have increased the spots to 42 to allow more people to attend.

Please update your RSVP so if you are NOT coming there will be another person who will be able to attend.

We will meet at 10am at the back side of the Art Museum near the Water Works Cafe instead of at the base of the front steps. There is street and parking lot parking behind the museum. The lot is $10 for 4 hours. $2 for each add'l hour I believe. In front of the museum at Eakins Oval the parking rate is a flat $10..cash only

If we get others to commit to leading smaller groups to work in we might increase the available spots depending on interest or even set up something like this again on another day in February...

I am new to the group and I may even volunteer to help lead :) Since it is an ambient light /reflector portrait, who are the models? Is it just someone from the group of 4?

Ed, we will most likely just use group members as models to work on the ambient / reflector techniques. We did that when we had our summer flash workshop and it worked out well.

Hi Ed... I agree with Joe that we will shoot pics of each other for practice. Of course, if someone knows of models who would like to work modeling for photos as trade that would be great, too. It would be lovely if you want to lead a group..the more leaders we have to make the groups smaller would be helpful. It might be a good idea for the leaders to have a SKPE Chat or even meet a 1/2 hour ahead to sort of set up their plan for what they want to cover! Thank you for offering to help out!

You can sign me up as a leader for the group. I would be glad to help out. Arriving a half hour before everyone one else is a great idea too. I am pretty sure I can line up a TFCD model for my group too. No one really wants pictures of me *LOL*... It's really a nice location and we should get some VERY nice light on the steps looking toward the city. The back of the museum near the river has some great photo ops as well. Looking forward to meeting everyone

I would like to see all the team leaders meet up 30-60 minutes prior, find places to work, and exchange notes.

I am excited about this meetup, and being a team leader. I feel this is one area of photography where anyone can get a great image without having to spend a lot on equipment.

I have 3 models (not actual models, but some of my friends who have volunteered to help us out that day). One is a guy who is an aspiring actor who wouldn't mind a few headshots hehe, the others are 2 of my girl friends.

As long as nothing comes up, they should all be good, but I will be able to verify by the week of the class.

Perhaps what can happen is if all the groups aren't too far away from each other, we can do a switch or two throughout so you don't have the same 'model'.

I might have one more guy, for a total of 4. If a group has two models, it probably won't hurt anyway, as there's gonna be 8 people. And since most people aren't models, and we want to hone our portrait skills, we've got to know how to capture every day people in their best light hehe! Yay!

    Anyway, will keep you updated.

Val, I would just say that the models should dress warmly. Lots of layers will help... everyone will meet at the base of the Art Museum steps.
