Sometimes a theme is suggested and I wonder how to "fit it in." Then, at some later time, it just becomes necessary.
I hope you made good use of the week off. I am still fairly occupied with the course I'm taking, so Wisdom is appealing because little coaxing should be needed. Also, it seems like a good time to take stock of our project, if I can call Philosophy Cafe such a thing. While change is constant, there do seem to be inflection points. In our case, they seem to be spaced eight months apart, so we're due:-) Let's use this discussion to explore how Wisdom might be accessible or achievable through group interaction.
After all, philosophy is Greek for "love of wisdom." Do note that wisdom is different from knowledge, though exactly how is something we might discuss. If someone would like to bring some knowledge of sophism to share, that might be helpful. Perhaps we can chart various ways of knowing, whether recognized or idiosyncratic.
As always, please bring a "focal point" for the group to synchronize on for a short stretch; I promise to ask for these at the top of the meeting. I think people are catching on to how a little thinking ahead can really make for a valuable session. Questions, stories, and quotes are quite appropriate; or, how about bringing a nugget of wisdom? That is, if you don't mind our getting a little "wise" about it....
