FILM CLUB: Robot and Frank (Jake Schreier, 2012)

PFA Film Club Meetings are held every third Wednesday of the month at theTwo Chairmen, 39 Dartmouth Street, SW1H 9BP, at 7 pm. We show the film, starting promptly at 7, and then have the discussion.

Nearest tube stations are St James Park (3 mins) and Westminster (8 mins) There is no charge, as the landlady of the Two Chairman kindly allows us to have the room for free, but we would ask that you buy at least one drink. Food is no longer served after 6 pm, so if you want to bring a sandwich (not hot food) that is OK.

First time and I really enjoyed the session. I found the discussion about consciousness intriguing. In terms of robots I think it will be useful to consider some of the writings on the philosophy of technology, now an established field, through the work of Pacey, Dusek and de Vries plus some of the speculative writing about the nature of technology - Brian Arthur is good here. And finally there's an interesting piece by Stuart Armstrong -"Smarter than Us the Rise of Machine Intelligence from MIRI - Machine Intelligence Research Unit

A good laugh was had by me and seemingly whole room. Although light hearted, movie brought up the issues that matter EG.
Am i "what i think?" or "am i what i feel?". yes, Robot's are programmed, but so are Human's - what's the difference? Well hosted discussion:)

Have already seen the film and it is so worth a second viewing - raises all sorts of issues that are just around the corner

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
