November meeting: Philosophy of Loyalty OR The Paradox of Suspense

Professor Alan Hausman will lead a meeting (date TBD) on a topic of the group's choosing. THE PARADOX OF SUSPENSE, (or, SHOULD WE IGNORE SPOILER ALERTS?) If suspense requires uncertainty about how a movie or novel turns out, how can a viewer or reader who knows the outcome still feel suspense? Yet, audiences regularly report feeling suspense when reading a novel for a second time, or watching a movie they know the ending to. Why is this so?
