Of Gratitude and Modesty

Are these just nice things to display in a civilised society or is there a more fiercely important and fundamentally functional side to these virtues?

From the most ancient philosophies, allegedly over 6000 years old to the most current thinking, these things come up and figure as highly practical weapons against; dull intellectual snobbery, sarcastic and negative views of life and attitudes of hopelessness and aggression.

How does this work and why is it so effective at connecting us to the sparkling freshness of the real world around us?

Sorry Michael - I am having to work late tomorrow. Hopefully work will become less busy in September and I will be able to attend the evening talks.
