Goldfield Ghost Town

Details time! We'll be meeting at the Goldfield Ghost Town at 12pm. Folks in the East Valley, it isn't too far of a drive for us, so I won't be setting up a meeting point, but for everyone else in North and West Phoenix area, I'll suggest (but it's completely up to you all) to meet at Tempe Marketplace by 10:15ish? Coordinate that however you'd like!

There's a lot to do at the Ghost Town, and I just listed all the things that I think would be pretty awesome if we went to, but we can do whatever you all want. Everything is labeled with prices on their website (link at bottom of description). I don't see anything on the site about them taking cards, so you may want to get some cash out just in case.

I'm leaving the RSVP without a cap. Since there's so much to do here, I wouldn't want to guide a group of 15+ to all the things I want to do if that's not what you're interested in. So we can all group off however we'd all like :) (If you want to stick with me and see all the things I want to see, awesome. We'll be bestest friends forever! not really..)

Since we're mostly on our own for this event. I'll post times for various attractions that we can all go to together. But for now, I'll just say that we can meet at the Saloon for lunch at 1pm. More scheduling specifics to come!

ATTRACTIONS

Goldfield Historic Museum - $1 Donation to Enter
This wonderful museum has interesting exhibits on the history of the area. Of particular note is the exhibit on the Lost Dutchman gold mine, perhaps the most famous mine in the country despite the fact that no one knows where it is. The second floor is a movie museum dedicated to famous westerns filmed in and around the legendary Superstition Mountains along the historic Apache Trail.

Goldfield Mine Tours | 10am - 4:30pm | $8 adults
The Goldfield Mine Tour takes approximately 25 minutes.  It is an underground guided tour that takes you back in time to 100 years ago.  The guides are well versed on the history of the mine, town, gold mining equipment and procedures.  Hang on tight as the mineshaft shakes from exploding dynamite! Tours can leave every 10 minutes for large groups. Big savings on the three pack, Train, Mine Tour and Mystery Shack.

Prospector's Palace Gold Pannings | 10am - 5pm daily | $7 adults
Stop in at the Prospector's Place to pan for gold. You will be guided and taught by a true gold historian who will show you the proper way to pan for gold. Any gold you find is yours to keep (very small slivers of gold - no nuggets!). It's a fun place and informative considering the mining techniques they devised there are still used today!

Mystery Shack | 10am - 5pm daily | $5 adults
Walk at 45 degree angles, water runs from faucets without being connected to pipes, the ghostly pool-table refuses to let you hit the balls straight and always seem to go into the same pocket, objects hang from the ceiling at 45 degree angles and no matter how hard you push them back, they will always swing back to their ghostly, slanted position.

Goldfield Gunfighters | Sat & Sun: FREE shows every hour 12pm to 4pm!
These gunfighters are the  toughest bunch of scoundrels  that ever walked the streets of Goldfield! These gunfighters are the reason why Goldfield is truly a town too tough to die! Witness the gunfights and all the daring antics of the cowboy and cowgirl characters as a bunch of town folks try to steal the Wells Fargo strong box. Get your best friend arrested and thrown in Jail! www.GoldfieldGunfighters.com

And for an early dinner at 3pm!

Hey everyone! The day is finally almost here! We're going to meet at Goldfield Ghost Town tomorrow at noon. Try to carpool if you can, since I know it's a ways for the Phoenix/West Valley folks. I'll attempt to get there early and help direct people in any way I can!

Please be sure to update your RSVP's if you find you can't come. We're basically going to be on our own, but I don't want to leave people behind if they are planning to be there! I have it posted in the description, but here it is again.. My number:[masked]-3781. There are a number of organizers attending this event, so any of us will be happy to help you (even Geoff)

Also, I assume they're up with the 21st century and are accepting cards, but bring cash just in case. Never know :)

Hi, All, I just had eye surgery so can't go, but, having been to Goldfield a couple of times, recommend stopping off at the chapel museum (where Elvis Presley acted in some movies) on the right-hand side of the road prior to Goldfield. (Just look for the white-steepled church; admission is free.). Be sure to walk the path to the back, too. Also, if you like hiking, be sure to hike the trails about a mile down the road from Goldfield; cost is about $8/car. I'd prob do that in the morning. In Goldfield, there is also horseback riding; the train ride is okay. The best parts for me were the Mystery Shack, the Mine tour, the ice cream shop (I'm an icecream-aholic!), and the restaurant. (I didn't know about the horseback riding, when I had gone before.). Enjoy!

    Hey all,

I wanted to see if there is any interest in going to eat at the Mining Camp Restaurant (http://www.miningcamprestaurant.com/).

I ate there once with the family when we first moved here in '89 and remember it being really good food and have always wanted to go back.

This is an all-you-can-eat family style restaurant (they bring out large plates of main courses/side dishes and you serve yourself...take what you want and as much as you want).

    September 23, 2013

    • Karina Q.

If we get enough people, we can get a group package and food would be provided. Probably won't be getting into details until well into October..

This is on the way to Apache Lake. :)

    September 19, 2013

    • Brian

To make it more worthwhile for the folks driving an hour and a half to get there, we should hit Canyon Lake too.

      September 19, 2013

    • Brian

Lake too. Goldfield is pretty much an hour or so to see everything.

      September 19, 2013

    Same weekend as Grand Canyon!

    September 19, 2013

    • Karina Q.

Switching the weekend after! Hang on to something for the time shift!

      1 · September 19, 2013

  • Nicole P.

Its a cool thing to do! You can go horseback riding, take old time pictures, a carriage ride, gold mine, etc.

    September 19, 2013

  • Karina Q.

I want to see what kind of interest this event might have. No RSVP cap for now, but if we get enough people I'll start making calls about Group Rates (which look pretty good). Just keep in mind it's totally tentative!
