Quartzsite, AZ: Desert Gardens International Rock, Gem and Mineral Show

Each year Quartzsite AZ has it's large and well-known show for all kinds of eye candy (mineral form). Anyone new to AZ should visit this exhibit at least once, especially if you are interested in geology, petrology, minerals or earth history. The show has dozens of vendors that gather along the streets of Quartzsite to display and sell their items. Most sellers in Phoenix get at least some of their selection from this show. It goes on through February 28; hopefully it's not all picked through for this weekend. Quartzsite is close to the border of Cali, but doesn't take long to reach on the I-10; just over an hour. The show is mostly outside (few indoor exhibits), so come prepared for some sun, but the weather will be great! We'll meet up at the Starbucks just off the I-10 and the 101 at 10am, spend an afternoon there and be back by 6pm. Car volunteers for rsvp's over 4.

Cost: free- but bring cash for food and whatever you can't live without. You don't have to purchase anything, it's cool to just graze through the fossils and beautiful objects our planet creates! Gas contributions are welcome.

Cool thx ang. Keep in mind guys this is an outdoor event, meaning rest facilities will also be outdoor, and healthy food options will be limited. I'll bring some water and snacks just in case.

No problem, it seems to be going around, and it would stink to feel bad walking around this place.

Just to clarify, the Starbucks is on 99th ave and Camelback?

No its just north of mcdowell on dysart, which is just north of the I-10, a bit west of the 101. I chose somewhere along the I-10 since that is the freeway getting out there.

I'll have to think about this one; Sunday mornings I usually go hiking with the Phoenix Atheists' Meetup, and Quartzite is a long way to go for a day trip for me. "A little over an hour" from Goodyear, yes, but from where I live in northeast Phoenix it takes the better part of an hour just to get to Goodyear.

We've done day trips before, so yes this would be like that. Whatever you decide, the more the merrier :)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
