Axis & Allies Game and Refresher Course..

It's Spring 1942, and the world is at war. Five major powers struggle for supremacy: Germany and Japan are aligned against the great alliance of the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, and the United States.

1942 takes place at the historical high-water mark of Axis expansion. Controlling one of the Axis or Allied powers, players command both their country's military forces and its war-time economy, with the chance to plan attacks, marshal forces into embattled territories, and resolve conflicts. Victory will go to the side that conquers its opponents on the field of battle and liberates or occupies the greatest cities of the world.

I began playing Axis & Allies back in the late '90's with a friend of mine who introduced me to the game. It was an almost nightly occurrence and I absolutely loved the game. As someone who really enjoys playing Risk, learning this game made Risk seem like child's play.

Unfortunately, that friend has long since moved away and finding new players proved challenging. This is a moderately difficult game to learn, and even more difficult to teach.

I've recently began playing again on a fairly regular basis with a new friend and we're looking for new players in order to have a full game.

We will be playing Axis & Allies 1942 Second Edition with book rules. Custom house rules will be introduced later as you become comfortable with the game as it is.

This Meet-up has a strict limit of 5 people. Please do not RSVP unless you know for sure you can make it.

Note: It's not uncommon for this game to take several hours. Please be aware of this when deciding if you can attend or not.

If you enjoy playing Risk, you're going to love Axis & Allies.

Very challenging. Will take some time to learn, but will be worth it.

An idea for including more interested players -- have two games. 3 or 4 players at each. (I have an Axis & Allies set that I could bring.)

I think that will be fine for future games. The place we are doing this one at though only has room for us to set up on one table.

Hopefully, we can get enough regular players so I can break out the big boy Global game sometime soon. I think that one can accommodate 7 players (not counting France and China)

That would be great. If you're on the waiting list, feel free to show up in case there's anyone who cannot make it. I'm really hoping to have a full 5 player game.

Quick question for those of you attending this.. How many of you already know how to play this and how many are looking to learn the game? I might just change this to an actual game if everyone knows how to play already..

I think it'll be fine. Your ally can definitely help you out. After a round or two it should all come back..

  • Gryph

I'll probably come around to hang out, but not to play. I'll learn another time.

    September 19, 2013

    • John

You could definitely observe and get a good idea how to play just from watching too.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
