Beginning Kayak Lesson (Free Classroom Instruction)

Have you been wanting to kayak but don't have experience? Phoenix Kayak Club supports kayaking with knowledge. To that end, we will post reasonably priced classes by knowledgable organizations when we find them. Lake Pleasant and Cabela's are offering a series of beginning kayak classes.

1. Call[masked] to register for the FREE one hour classroom instruction at Cablelas. The class is at 6 PM.

2. The on-water section of the class is $35, paid to the park district. You must call[masked] and pay the park district for your class to be registered. Signing up on this posting does not register you for the class but will show you who else in the group will be going on the date you select.

How it works:

  • A free classroom instruction is held at Cabelas at 6 PM on Friday evening.
  • One week later, on Saturday, an on-water three-hour class is held. There are two choices for the on-water class ,6 AM to 9 AM or, 8 AM to 11 AM.
  • Open to ages 12 and up.

I recommend the 6 AM slot if you can get it as the lake is glass like at that time of day--a very tranquil setting. You must preregister to ensure a place in the class. ~Yak-A-tak Donna.

Friday night classroom location: Cabelas

Saturday morning on-water location: Desert Outdoor Center at Lake Pleasant

Please note: Your Meetup Organizers will not be attending the class offerings--which gives full capacity to students wanting the lessons.

Dates of program are:

August 5 (classroom) + August 13 (on-water) 6 AM to 9 AM and 8 AM to 11 AM

September 2 (classroom) + September 10 (on-water) 6 AM to 9 AM and 8 AM to 11 AM

October 7 (classroom) + October 15 (on-water) 6 AM to 9 AM and 8 AM to 11 AM

Legal Stuff: Our organizers are volunteers and this group is not a business. By choosing to attend a kayak, scuba or boating meet-up you assume the risk of getting wet, capsizing, and other risks inherent with SCUBA and boating which can include drowning and permanent injury. The organizers and members of this meetup do not provide any warranty for your safety. Ultimately, you are responsible for yourself and your safety. If you are new to kayaking, please take a safety course before doing an adventure. it was great! the class room taught us alot about safety, equipment and what to expect for the on the water session. Location was very good, everyone in the store were very helpful and the class room was very comfortable and convenient.

On the water session was great as well. I learned alot and had fun as well. The rangers were very knowledgable and were very willing to teach not only about the how to and equipement but also the very important safety aspects.

Thank you for for a great class.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
