Thanks for the hospitality extended to me last Tuesday. I'm sorry that I won't be joining the group. The senior citizen band in Upper Merion is starting to get busy and I need to recruit players for them. I also just signed up with a small wedding band so that makes it 5 bands that I will be booking for.
Good luck with the Jam group.

I could also host a jam or alternate with Cristiana or whatever it takes to get more jam time.

It was a great night and everyone had something good to bring to the table. We played our music and everyone else's music and somehow we managed pretty well, considering it was our first time together. Looking forward to the next meeting. I was just wondering if anyone is interested in getting together on some weekends and jam. I'd be happy to host at my place.

I'd be interested in a weekend jam Cristiana.

I too think our 1st night was a good start. I liked how Don (thanks Don) tried to give some structure. I agree that when someone is taking a solo, we all should play quietly. I want to thank Jim for organizing. I have some ideas for future meetings that I would be happy to bring to next meeting.

Good time tonight given it was our first meeting, it was a great success!

Great to meet all the nice folks that accompanied, who are also clearly accomplished musicians! A little rough execution but given that this was the inaugural session, it went well & was enjoyable. I expect that with a bit time it should be a organized and great jam going forward. One additional comment, although the "about us" associated with this meetup does state that any genre of music is welcome, for a couple of us the references to the Steel City Blues Society led us to believe that the Blues would generally be a significant focus, which was clearly not the case.

Looking forward to the next one!

So sorry to miss it...I'll get the scoop from some friends like Don and Frank, inquiring minds want to know !

Hello all, this will be my first time. Is there a set list or do we just bring what we would like with copies?
    Thanks!

Looking forward to the jam session. I will bring a few songs and enough copies for everybody. Thanks!

One week from tonight is our inaugural meetup! Looking forward to meeting everyone and having some fun. Please update your RSVP if you can't make it. I was testing the technology, they have a great room with a big flat screen. Was going to hook the screen up to my laptop to play tabs through. Chairs are provided. While they have free wireless our room is on the outskirts of connectivity.....

I nominate Midnight Special in key of E and House of the Rising Sun. I think it's in Am. Can the BeeGees, To Love Somebody be played in a bluesy fashion. I guess yes.

Mike Noble, Thanks for offering to help with the steel drums. Is it possible you have a buddy that could also give a hand? I know "high maintance" With all the Blues talk do you think Jamaica Farewell and Yellow Bird would fit? Would you email me your phone number and the best time to call ([masked])Thanks, Larry

I have to think a bit more, however, I like to do Folsom Prison as a slow to medium blues shuffle.
    I-IV-V 12 bar blues with a turnaround in E.

John Hiatt's "Wintertime Blues" from Master of Disaster and J.J. Cale's version of "Call me the Breeze". Since I'm a percussionist and play in other meetup circles I keep it low key, allowing the acoustic players to take center stage, I'm strictly quiet accompaniment using a Doumbek or djembe in stands that provides a snare sound with steel brushes and a bass line as well. It works. I normally play with Irish/folk bands but gigging with singer/songwriter band and an Allman Brothers type cover band as well so my scaled down setup for this meetup should be adequate. Looking forward to it.

Great to see so many people with a simple interest - play some music and have fun!

The room we have reserved has full A/V capabilities. If each person can send 1-2 requests for songs via tabs/chords on ultimateguitar.com and we can show them on the screen (no paper).

If anyone has other suggestions, I am open to it. I do think eventully having paper may be necessary to practice and keep things moving.

    See you on 3/4!

Remember our first meeting is 3/4 (not tomorrow). Let's suggest some songs we can start with...

I have to miss this. With all the snow, my clinical schedule for tomorrow night is overbooked and I won't be leaving the office until around 945 or 10.

As you already know Mike, I prefer to play bass because, whether electric or acoustic most musical meetups benefit from a bass player filling in the bottom. I hope a spot opens up for me in time for me to attend...Thanks for replying, Mike

Oh, yeah, Skip. Come on down! Maybe we can get everyone to plug in. If you play the blues, some of it has to be ELECTRIC!

All, this is not a hoax. We are on for Tuesday, March 4th and every first Tuesday thereafter. My contact at the library forgot to enter our meeting in the logbook and another employee saw our meetup and could not confirm it. I have much too little free time to come up with a hoax that would be this lame!

I deleted the message to avoid further confusion. We did have to change dates and for that I apologize but we are good now.

Hope to see everyone on the 3/4.

Please stop posting about the hoax to avoid further confusion. If you have any lingering concerns please call my cell[masked] 6759.

    Thanks

I'm a little uncomfortable with the whole 'is it a hoax or isn't it?' thing. Why would a library employee come to this page and leave a comment that this meetup was a hoax? And why was that comment deleted instead of discussed and cleared up? I understand that miscommunication happens, and that may be all this is. But some explanation would help me feel a little better. I just think it was really odd that the person from the library came here and claimed that this was a "hoax."

    January 28, 2014

    • Mike N.

Tracy, when I first read the "hoax" notification, I wrote to the organizers asking them what was going on. They wrote directly to me immediately explaining the mix up. I think that the employee was just looking at the calendar and did not see a meeting. I think that everything is on the up and up and I am looking forward to the first meeting.

Hi, I'm new to the group. I don't live close so I won't make it to every jam. Question: I play a soft nylon string guitar. Can I bring my small amp to use with it?

Hoax? Anyone else get an email about this being a hoax? Can't find the comment here. Is the hoax a hoax?

    January 27, 2014

  • Jim D.

This is NOT a hoax but Library did not have us down for that night (2/11). We may need to move to the first Tuesday of the month. We will post a message tomorrow.

Do you play in the library basement? Do you think I can get a volunteer to help me from handicap parking to the basement with my 2 steel drums and stands? I use a walker also. It's really not as bad as it sounds, I'm still gigging with one of my bands. (caribbeansteelband.com)

    January 25, 2014

    • Mike N.

I hereby volunteer. I am an old dude and will gladly help out.

      January 25, 2014

Personally, I prefer to eliminate as much paper as possible. In another forum we upload files of the songs before the date. Then folks can download them and either print them out or use them on a mobile device. Otherwise a lot of paper is wasted.

I would prefer to play music together and not just do the read music and play ALONG with the song thing. But what do I know.

      January 25, 2014

  • Rick Willumsen j.

There's a good question for everyone ! I know when Frank formed the Downingtown Acoustic meetup he put a ton of work into putting together 100 songs that everyone could agree upon. This started out as a tremendous aid, some have all the PDFs in notebooks others have it on pads, but he also suggested that at each meetup participants bring 2 songs with them to share, and 13 copies of the chords and lyrics to pass around. I find this to be probably the best way to share music and learn for all involved. Sure some folks don't have the time or the copiers or whatever necessary to do this and I'm sure this weeds out a few, but I can tell you the system works and highly suggest it.

Happy to see a group like this starting locally. How will we decide what to play on Feb. 11th?

Hi Guys, I'm a real tentative "yes" for this. I have office
hours on Tuesday nights. I can move things once in a while but I also need to make a living (finished 8 years of college tuition payments for my children 18 mos. ago). Although I live in Lower Merion, my office is in Maple Shade, NJ so travel is a consideration (traffic will be a bitch at this hour). I won't hold a spot if it gets near the date and people are waiting. I'm hopeful that I can attend.
