This was my first meetup and I am ready for more. The tour was wonderful and relaxing. A great way to get to take beautiful pictures and interact folks.

Very beautiful gardens. I enjoyed the help I received and lessons. It was chilly but a sunny day. Really enjoyed myself.

Great location. Only negitive was the "no tripod" rule.

Lovely setting. Jim and other members were friendly, approachable and helpful.
The main drawback was Gibbs policy against the use of tripods ("highly discouraged"), therefore this is not the best place for macro. But otherwise a lovely setting for landscape and color.

This was my first meetup. That being said, Jim Pettit is a great leader in everything he undertakes. As I understand the definition of a meetup, it is only meant to provide an opportunity for people with a like interest to meet and share an experience. This was an excellent opportunity and the experience was over the top.

Gibbs Garden was a great choice for our first meetup. So many beautiful scenes to photograph.

    Tripods are discouraged.

It was discussed in a private conversation with a GG representative and final decision was going to be made before talking to Jim.

They open at 9:30. I didn't see that part under "Garden Etiquette" where they said tripods are discouraged except if you are getting there early and you are going during the week.

Had they not said they were going to speak with Jim, I, of course, wouldn't take one. Since they were going to speak with Jim, there was a possibility because of the early time and it being during the week, that they could tell him it would be ok. I was waiting for Jim to comment here.

I would think if they strongly discourage it, then don't do it.

I spoke with someone at Gibbs Gardens today and was told that they strongly discourage tripods and that they would be calling you about it. Is there a final decision about that? "Strongly discourage" doesn't mean forbid, however I don't want to shlep a tripod if it isn't allowed.

If you have a season pass - just show up on the 11th.

    March 31, 2012

  • Diana M.

Then you show the pass and don't have to pay. I have one too.

What do you do if you have a season pass to the Gardens?
