Ready to move past the snapshot? Or, maybe your photographs just aren’t speaking to you. If you are looking to find the personality of your subject and show it through photography, this class will help! “The Art of Seeing” introduces simple tricks to capturing incredible images.

This non-technical class may sound easy, however it’s actually an advanced topic designed to help beginners and experienced photographers alike.

Join Calumet’s John Granata and experience his unique view of the world. In this class you will learn some of the basic rules of photography, then quickly understand how easy it is to “break the rules”. Whether you set your camera on auto or use the manual modes, this class is for you.

This first class will focus on:

  • Photographer movement: students will be expected to move around throughout the class.
  • Camera positioning: when to move your camera, how it changes your image and how it changes the perception of the viewer

Participants will need a camera they are comfortable using, you can use a DSLR, a point-and-shoot or even a camera phone.

About the Instructor

Your instructor will be Calumet’s own John Granata, who has been a part of the Chicago photo community for 20 years and received his BFA degree from Columbia College. While well versed in the classical elements of art and the principles of design, Granata’s own intriguing work is proof that “rules are meant to be broken!” His images and work using alternative digital printing methods can be viewed at www.johngranata.net.
