Maricopa Live Steamers at the Adobe Western Railroad.
Come on out to Pinnacle Peak and 43rd Ave, in the Adobe Mountain Dam Park, and shoot the G scale trains of the Adobe Western Railroad. We will be allowed to wander through 17+ miles of track, shooting both passenger and freight trains running to a schedule.
After turning north on 43rd ave, proceed to the second gate on the right (after the Train Museum). The event is not open to the public until the afternoon - we are welcome to visit the property and photograph. There are lots of opportunities to think out of the box. Engineers tend to be friendly, but remember they are running on a schedule!
Rides are available, they usually run 30-40 minutes, depending on which route you choose. Rides are free, but feel free to donate to the preservation of this venue and the trains that run on it.
Weather in March can be unpredictable. This is desert, and the concession stand is usually only open on Sunday afternoon. Bring good walking shoes, water, and snacks.
Next door to the train area, is a kart track - best shooting is actually inside the train park. Also, a but further north, there is a RC model airplane flying venue. They welcome photogs, but have fairly stringent rules about what you can and can't do, and where you can go (you've been told!).

Just a little confused with the directions - going north on 43rd Ave, the railroad is on the left - are we supposed to park there or on the right - the other side of 43rd where the sports complex is?

Want to make sure you understand these are scale models, standing about 2 feet high. Most of the modelers have taken pains to be realistic. Not all models are steam powered, some are electric, some diesel, some are coal fired, saw one propane, and several run on gas.
