Austin Street Art

I think it would be fun to photograph street art/murals around town. This could actually be broken up into several meetups in different parts of town. Baylor Street would be a great place to start. Burnet Road also has a lot of buildings with murals. I've seen lots of interesting street art east of 35 around 5th and 6th street and there is also a lot downtown and around the university. I'm sure photographers in the group would have other suggestions.

I lost the group after the skulls. So I shot a few more things, and headed back to the car...

Somehow I completely forgot about this meet but that's okay, not really feeling like going out anyway. Might head towards 6th street for a drink later though.

Wow! I'm so glad to see the interest in this. I've wanted to do this for a while and hope this will be the first in a series to capture all the great art around town! Steven, did you really intend to schedule this at 8pm? I'm thinking we should schedule it in the morning.

I am going to do this, but on my own. I have lots of free time during the week and it seems the perfect reason to get out and explore the city. I will be posting to the page when it gets set up.

East Austin has some great murals as well. Best times for me are Saturdays or Sundays

Julie, You can suggest a date, time and place for an East Austin photo walk if you like. Once there are 3 photographers signed up your meetup will automatically be announced.

Hi everyone. I've posted an alternate time/location under the "suggested" tab on the home page for those who prefer a morning event. Once we have 2 more RSVP's, it will be announced as an upcoming event. Thanks for the suggestion Steven!

Saturday is a good day for me. However, 8pm???? It is dark at that time. Perhaps a mid-morning timeframe would be more suitable????

I would suggest the popular 6th street starting at the Driskill hotel...

Steven, Thanks for filling in the missing date, time and place.

Hi Everyone. This was a suggested meetup by one of our members. It was suggested sometime ago without a date, time and place. If you suggest a meetup please specify the date, time and place. It can be changed later. It looks like Tricia suggested this meetup before we made the change to how are meetups are announced and when 3 people signed up meetup automatically announced it. Steven stepped up and assigned a date, time and place to this particular meetup which is allowed now. So just remember if you suggest a meetup add all the details you can.

Castle Hill Graffiti Park on Baylor is awesome. Could add a walking tour by starting south at the pedestrian bridge and get some shots of the famous art on the rail's bridge. Then walk up Lamar to the train overpass near Whole Foods (south of 5th) - there's always something interesting on the overpass' south facing side. Then head north towards 10th and Lamar and turn left - the old Cheapo store has famous artists' work on the north side (each piece is spread out from one another so it's not too clustered looking). Finally, walk a half block to 10th and Baylor and hit the gold mine at the graffiti park!
