Another fun meetup with a great group of photographers. Thank you to everyone who came out and made this such a fun day and a special thanks to Jeff and Joe for their guidance throughout the day. A really fun place to practice portraits, everyone we asked was willing to pose for us.

suggestions for this weekends sherwood meetup
most rennies will stop for a photo if you ask them.
at 5pm there is a fairy battle by the seven sisters stone circle
a lot of rennies tend to hang out by the 2 pubs later in the afternoon.(3pm or so) im usually at the 3 stags although i do wander around alot
the pub sing at ye olde jerusalem pub at 6pm has a lot of musicians singing
the stage at the 3 stags pub is inside and fairly dark
the only thing i ever need a tripod for is the fire show by the front entrance at dusk

if its bright sunshine i bring my flash, otherwise i use natural light.
i bring either my d600 or sony nex 6 with a[masked] on the nikon or a[masked] on the nex. i have brought primes in the past but usually dont bother now since im there almost every day the faire is open

I'm not attending because I'm going to the precision camera university weekend. Is anyone else attending? I'd love to talk about it.

Long lenses work well to photograph performers and musicians on stage. I used my super zoom [masked]mm) last year. A fast 50mm prime would be great for portraits. Flash can be helpful but it's not necessary. There are lots of patrons in garb and they are almost always willing to pose for a photograph. Note if you are not in garb your considered to be "naked". Old Potato Road is a dirt road with ruts and bumps, I had to go about 10 MPH. Wine, beer, meade and food are available for purchase inside the fair but many vendors only take cash so come prepared. It's easy to go in and out of the fair to your car to get jackets, batteries, other lenses whatever you need. Great opportunity to practice your portrait photography. You won't need a tripod unless you plan to stay till after dark. Last year there was a parade at 1 PM.

David, Costumes are encouraged at Sherwood Forest Fair but not necessary. All the actor/participants were appropriate garb and many of the visitors also wear garb. I plan to dress up this year. Last year I didn't.
