The Commemerative Airforce Museum in Burnet

Shoot WW2 planes at Burnet Airport and Commemerative Air Force Museum.  Its a working hangar where they restore WW2 planes. The museum is open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.  On Saturday's they open at 10:00 AM.

I'm thinking the hangar with the planes might be a good place to use HDR techniques.  If anyone wants to try and does not know how I can help.

Come out and join the group for a fun filled day.

Thanks to Allen for organizing a fun day! How nice that we ended up getting to see the planes up close and even got to visit with a couple of pilots as they made a pit stop! I so enjoy this group!

Had a wonderful time at the Air Force museum and winery. What a beautiful day to spend with some great friends. I learn so much each time we meet. Thanks for putting it together Allen.

open today The problem is that no one at the museum was contacted. When you schedule a photo shoot, they usually require to set up the planes on the ramp cleanly - it is also best to shoot them early in the morning or late afternoon for proper sun angle. I was there early to try to help setting them up but did not know - they had other things in plan including a prom. The DC-3 was eventually taken out of the hangar but with tow bars attached, open doors, and high sun which are no good when shooting planes. As a veteran aviation shooter, I was there to to try to help. Next time, please call ahead to see
planes available etc. Today, the shot in the hangar would have been cluttered. Should anyone plan any future event that may involve aviation, please don't hesitate to call me.

Museum was not open today. Should have been checked by coordinator. Also, apparent issues with copyright, etc.

And for the photographer-sommelier members of our group don't forget our side trip to Perissos Vineyard following the meetup at the Air Museum. The leaves and grapes are back on the vines, there should be some good photos to be had there as well, that is if you can put your glass of wine down long enough to take a few shots (photos). Perissos is about a 15 minute drive from the airport near the entrance to Inks lake state park. I'll have a few maps with me. I'm planning on bringing a picnic lunch. The vineyard address is 7214 Park Road 4 West Burnet, TX[masked]

For those of us with GPS this address should get you close to the airport entrance. Then the Air Museum is the large building to the left. You will see vintage aircraft displayed around the building. 1428 South Water Street, Burnet TX.

I am sore to have to cancel. My back is in bad shape, and I won't be able to attend this Saturday. Have fun!

I have been shooting aviation ground setups for many years for clients and will be in attendance for those who would like tips on what to look for and to share some of the mistakes people usually do when preparing aviation photos.

What type of lens would be best to bring? Or should I bring more than one? Tripod?

    May 3, 2013

    • Allen R.

I plan to bring a wide angle lens and a zoom telephoto. I also plan to bring a tripod. The tripod and wide angle lens will be useful inside the hangar because I plan to take some HDR shots.

After talking with a couple of group members this past weekend we decided to head over to Perissos Vineyards after the shoot at the Airforce Museum. It's located near Inks Lake State Park. We will probably head over there around 1:30 PM. Everyone is welcome to join us.

My dad was a former B-24 pilot...flew 19 missions out of Italy in 1944 over Austria/Germany at the age of 21...he is 90 now. The Redtails flew cover for him on most missions. I would love to go but my weekends are taken through July. I might try and go during the week soon...have fun, and look forward to the pics.
