After Dark Urban Street Photography 2
Photograph / document urban night life of downtown Austin, architecture, signs, inside or outside shops or bars and of course the Austin urban dwellers, posed or candid. We will be shooting after sunset using existing lighting.
Challenge: High ISO, Wide open lens, no flash, no tripod.
If your camera won't support these extreme lighting conditions I don't mind if you use flash or tripod, just come out and have fun with the group. I suggest using a tripod if your camera is too slow for after dark shooting, use flash as a last resort. For example last year I shot with my Canon 7D around 3200 ISO with my 50mm f1.4 lens almost wide open. Photoshop and other programs are remarkably good at cleaning up noise these days.
The goal is to take low light night scene photos of urban life, street scenes, architecture utilizing only existing light sources.
We will meet at Austin Java at 7:00 PM. Parking is available at the Austin City Hall parking garage.
From there we will do a photo walk around downtown Austin leaving Austin Java a little after 7:00 PM. We can stick together as a group or you can wander off on your own. We did this event last November, you can check out the photos from that meetup on our photo page.
We will rendezvous back at Austin Java after about 2 or 2.5 hours of shooting for some socializing.
Weather permitting. If it's raining or 30 something degrees I'll probably reschedule for another Saturday night.
