Early Fall Migration at Forsythe NWR

  • Edwin B. Forsythe Wildlife Refuge - Brigantine

800 Great Creek Rd, Oceanville, NJ (map)

    39.464664 -74.450500

  • The fall migration is underway at Forsythe NWR.  Warblers, Vireos, and other migrating Passeriformes are showing up in the woods, and more ducks are arriving out in the pools, including green-winged teals and Northern Pintails.  Lots of juvenile Little Blue Herons are showing up too, so this is a very good indication that the fall migration is underway.

We will meet a Gull Pond Tower at 7:30AM

When we get done we can go to Celina's for lunch as usual, or anyplace else if anybody has suggestions.

Itinerary will follow at a later date......

Well it's Friday and they are no closer to passing a budget deal since this started, so this meetup is going to have to be canceled as the refuge is still closed and probably will be through the weekend at least.

Check this page Friday night. If they have not passed a budget by then I will have to cancel it, but we will wait until then.

Hello Bill. I'm here in Asheville, NC for 2 weeks, so I will not be able to join the group. See you next time.

Yes Jim, this one is still on. I have not heard anything from Chris asking me to change this one to another date. That one is going to be a Joint meetup with the John Heinz NWR group so I'm sure they will have enough people attending it.

That meetup is being organized by another group, The New Jersey Nature Photographers group, but it's attendance is limited to 12 members only. I recommend that people go to the boat trip instead of this one as it will definitely be the better than the one we are having at Forsythe. I'm pretty sure most of the members RSVPing this meetup had no intention of going to that other one, but if Chris thinks this one is going to effect the boat trip I'll cancel it or reschedule no problem. This one was originally intended to be scheduled on 10/12/13, but the Nature Photographers Group is having a Cape May meetup that day also. I did not want to interfere with that one. This is why this meetup was scheduled on 10/5/13 instead.

This is the same date that is scheduled for the Skimmer boat trip that Mark Bohn has planned and a few of our members are already planning to attend? Any chance of rescheduling to Sunday the 6th?
