Hello Fellow Photography Students,
Welcome to our Photographic Lighting Workshops.
I am really excited to announce the next upcoming Lighting Workshop in the series for 2013!!
February 23, 2013 Outdoor Lighting Workshop - Scottsdale Civic Center 11am to 6pm
February 23 is right around the corner and in this workshop will focus on creating two powerful lighting formulas. First we will learn the use of reflectors and diffusers and how to augment, what might be called available light, by adding direction and dimension.
Reflector or Diffuser: We will set our models into an environment which contains backlight and fill light, the surrounding ambient. We will then create a Main or Key light using either a reflector or diffuser. We will create lighting dimension by correctly positioning either the reflector or the diffuser to produce traditional portrait lighting. We will then discuss and demonstrate how a reflector and diffuser differ and when to use them.
Models: We will then create teams to recreate what has been demonstrated in the class. Each team will also have a model to work with.
Lighting Patterns: Once everyone feels comfortable with setting the reflected or diffused light source, we will take a good look at the traditional lighting patterns, when understood, will advance your creative control of portrait lighting. Rembrandt, Loop, Butterfly, and then Short and Broad Lighting.
Adding a Speedlight: The next step in the Lighting Workshop will be to replace the reflected or diffused light source from the sun, using a reflector or diffuser, with a speed light. Adding the speed light into the lighting equation now allows the Main light to be positioned independently of the availability or position of the sunlight.
Dimensional Lighting: As the day progresses, additional speed lights will be added to create, what I like to call, Dimensional Lighting. Now, from this three speed light setup, studio quality Lighting can be created in any location as a fully portable solution. This will provide you with a winning formula for plug and play portraiture.
What you will be learning are not gimmicks, they are tried and true lighting formulas designed to provide you with a solid foundation for creative portable lighting.
The February 23 workshop will be held outdoors at the Scottsdale Civic Plaza 75th St. and Main, Scottsdale, AZ. We will meet in the parking area at 75th Street and Main entrance.
You will want to bring water, snacks and lunch. We will also have a raffle for an ExpoImaging Rogue FlashBender Starter Kit. The raffle money goes to tip our models.
I look forward to meeting everyone,
David Lloyd, CPP
