Adobe Photoshop Basics for Everyone.
This 6 hour class is being offered for those who are new to Photoshop and/or who want to learn more about using this powerful editing program. Photoshop has become the industry standard for many photographers for editing images, however it can be a bit overwhelming for those who are just starting out or who have been struggling to better understand it. In this class, we will cover the basics and focus on what you really need to know so you’ll quickly be editing your images like a pro!
Below is a list of some of the topics that will be covered in this class on a basic level:
· Getting acquainted with Photoshop: tools, menu bar and interface
· The power of layers and using layer masks
· Basic blending and blend modes
· Using levels and curves
· Fixing and adjusting color
· File formats
· Camera raw
· Cropping and straightening images
And, because we all learn by doing, we will work on images together and then students will have an opportunity to work on their own images as time allows.
Students should come to class with a recent version of Photoshop (Photoshop CS5 or higher) already loaded onto their laptops and 3-4 images to work on during class. Photoshop Creative Cloud that many people are using is perfect, too.
This class is being taught by Betty Wiley, a free-lance photographer, speaker and experienced instructor who resides on Cape Cod. Betty has been using Photoshop for over 19 years and uses the software on a daily basis with great skill. Her work frequently appears in local magazines.
You will learn new skills and polish the ones you already have in this class in a fun, interactive and supportive classroom setting. And, because we all learn by doing, we will work on images together, then guide you through working on your own images as time allows.
There will be a break for lunch (not included).
Maximum Participants limited to 10 people to ensure individual attention from 2 instructors: Betty Wiley from Ava Grace Studio, and Amy Davies.
A basic working knowledge of your computer in general.
A current version of Photoshop (CS5 or newer) loaded on your computer is needed for this class unless you want to only take notes.
You need to know how to open and save a file and know how to navigate and move photos on your computer. We will not be able to help you with basic computer skills as it will slow the class down.
If you are given a thumb drive with images on it, you should know how to download the images onto your computer and pull them up when you need them.
Options for getting Adobe Photoshop: Some of you may be thinking of upgrading from Adobe Elements or have recently subscribed to Photoshop CC (Creative Cloud) for $10/mo. If you would like to see what Photoshop can do for you, download a free trial and bring it to class. Adobe has an annual plan for $10/mo and it includes Lightroom.
This class will only cover Adobe Photoshop, NOT Adobe Elements software.
Need To Bring: You will need a laptop or a portable desktop with Adobe Photoshop if you wish to work hands on. You will need a recent version of Photoshop, CS5 or above, to be able to follow along. Your computer must have the latest updates of software, be fairly new and running well. Bring images you may want to work on, on your computer where you can find them.
If you do not have a well running laptop or desktop you can bring, you may share with a friend or take notes, if that works for you.
Cost: $135.00 per person payable through PayPal with a credit card or PayPal account.
Type of workshop: Hands on, lots of examples to support instruction. We will show you how to do some basic processing on your images using Photoshop.
