Rick Sammon Workshop: September 2012

We had a blast at the workshop in June and August 2011, and are doing another one in September 2012. We'll be covering a variety of topics, for example Everyday Studio lighting, HDR  photography, painting with light, fill-in flash, portraits, live models and other topics as they come up. Subject to change.

Rick Sammon Workshop in American's Hometown of Plymouth, MA.  September 14, 15, and 16th, 2012.

Limited to 15 lucky participants!

Here are some details of our weekend together, the weather may dictate some changes. Rick likes to keep things flexible, the idea is you'll get a lot of one on one, shooting instruction, photo review, and post processing help, while having fun!

Tentative schedule:

Friday, 5:30pm gathering for a friendly welcome dinner (hopefully at a private home in Manomet, Plymouth, on a pond). Bring your camera and flash as there will be a Daylight Fill-in Flash Demo and practice.

Saturday, 8AM until after dinner with a break for lunch. Meet at our classroom for an HDR and Macro demonstration, then a morning shoot, possibly at a dance studio with dancers as models.  PM - Another photo shoot, TBA. Then download and work on images, software info and instruction, photo review etc. at the Hilton in our classroom.  5:30pm group dinner if you want to join the fun, possible painting with light photography.

Sunday, Photoshoot, then indoors for Everyday Studio Lighting work, with post processing and feedback after at our classroom in Plymouth. Photo review and slide show. Workshop ends at 4pm.

Schedule subject to change.

Maximum of 15 participants. Fee for the weekend is $350. Fee includes personal and photographic instruction, and guidance. Topics covered will include digital workflow, Lightroom and Photoshop along with photo review. We arrange shooting locations, meeting rooms for post processing and feedback, slideshow. Your part: Transportation, and lodging if needed (we recommend The Radisson Waterfront Hotel or The Hilton Garden Inn as the group hotel). You pay for all your own meals, entrance fees/costs to locations as needed and incidentals. Friday and Saturday night's dinners are around $20 each dinner if we have a private location and you bring your own beverage.

You'll need a camera and laptop computer, PC or Mac and you MUST know how to find your photos on your computer.  Some post processing software that connects to Photomatix or Nik HDR is needed for HDR, trial version is fine. Photoshop or Photoshop Elements are encouraged. Details subject to change.

I had a blast this past weekend. Hospitality was over the top. Instruction was better than expected, even for some of us 'Nikon' shooters. (-:
Best of all was meeting new friends.

Amy is a great organizer who attends to all the details...major or minor. I would highly recommend attending any of her events if the topic being presented is featuring one of your interests. You won't be disappointed. Location is key...event room is comfortable, easy plug in access for each participant and stadium seating. Rest rooms are right around the corner and plenty of excellent quick seaford restaurants within a 5 minute walk of the Radisson.

Also...very important...Amy features high quality presenters who know their stuff and are also great teachers....not always the case with some events.

As for Rick Sammon...as always his workshops are top notch where everyone takes home great photographs and new techniques. And, Susan (his lovely wife) is his greatest asset...check out her IPhone skills...she's a master.

Friday night at Amy's proved to be a wonderful evening with Rick Sammon! Maybe the group of us that admits to being flash challenged should get together post workshop weekend to practice Ricks lessons!

  • Louise L.

I am also extremely flash challenged! What do I need to have to fire a flash remotely? And any suggestion on a good flash to get for off camera use?

    September 11, 2012

    • David K.

I'll have an extra Nikon Speedlight if that will help.

Oh my, Canon of course! LOL

    September 11, 2012

  • Lori

I'm 'flash-challenged'. In the list of things to bring for the workshop it talks about ' firing the flash remotely'. Is this referring to a Pocket Wizard? Are there any other Nikon users attending that might be able to help me out with this?

    September 9, 2012

    • David K.

I'm a Nikon shooter. I'll have some speedlights and some Pocket Wizard Plus III's with me. Hope this helps.

      September 10, 2012

  • Amy D.

A Nikon Pocket Wizard has been obtained!

Just made my reservation at the Hilton Garden Inn. Looking forward to the workshop.

Tried the Radisson. Only one room available ($189+) and they do NOT have a contract yet so no Group Rate is available at this time. So, made a reservation at the Hilton Garden. The Group Rate at the Hilton Garden is $169+.
Looking forward to a great weekend of learning and shooting. Can't wait to get a Ziggy's burger and ice cream, yeah!

Hi, how far is the Radison from the Hilton: I booked at the hilton becasue that was where the workshop was being held, now it has changed to the Radison and they have no rooms. I do not know the area being from Maine, hopefully I won't get too lost finding the new venue.

    August 12, 2012

    • Amy D.

They are 2.8 miles from each other, and the Radisson may have more rooms on August 14th, if you want to switch. Email me by clicking on the small 'contact us' envelope below my photo on the left side of this page.
