I really enjoyed this meetup! I happened to be at the Laney campus that day and opted to stay and participate. The brief lecture, handouts and helpful/friendly instructor & TAs were GREAT. It's beyond helpful that this meetup was FREE, especially for students like myself. Charging folks limits access to this information...

I don't mind that it ran longer than expected. The only thing that could be improved would be the queue to photograph. People who had a chance to shoot should have made room for people who hadn't shot yet. That would have helped the time-management and overall organization of the meetup. Otherwise it was really informative.

Hey everyone.... I am uploading all the handouts from last Saturday workshop since some of you have been requesting them. In the future please feel free to email me request for handouts or any additional info and I will respond back. Great turn out!

Since I wasn't able to attend, I'd love to have the handouts.

Fun class. I appreciate that it is free and with that in mind I just am happy to learn anything new. I missed the hand outs but took some notes and learned a lot. I look forward to the next!

Great turn out everyone despite the over flow. I will make future workshops closed to only RSVP since our time is limited. Outside of that everyone had some great shots. My appreciation and compliments to our makeup artist Rashida form Laney Cosmetology department and Lisa Oliveras our beautiful model. Thanks Rashida and Lisa EXCELLENT job!

Agree, way too many people. I got notice that a spot had become available and having been on the waiting list was offered the spot. I made the hour and a half drive each way . . . but left early.
I was expecting to be one of maybe 15 people.
Start charging for these classes and check names at the door. ... or forget the shooting and present a good lecture on a good subject. To examine in depth the work of Irving Penn perhaps with a slideshow and reverse engineering the lighting would have been far more interesting.
Thank you to the organizers for the efforts but, sorry to say, I was disappointed.

Hey John I know we had more show up at last minute and that made it real hard for all of you who had RSVP. Did not want to turn anyone away and figured we could make is flow but we did get backed up. My apologies! I will be hosting meetups in San Jose where I live so those of you in the South Bay will not have to travel so far including myself. Looks like June will be my tentative date. I will RSVP you fist so you will get a spot.

I thoroughly enjoyed today. Wished everyone would've shot quicker though, so we could get more comfortable - it was better when there was two pockets wizards.

Too many people. Class was limited to 15, since that is the maximum that can fit the time, shoot, etc. and thirty showed up. Need to start checking names. No excuse for this. Many of us follow the rules and hence miss some classes.

thanks, this will be my first with you guys and I am looking forward to it. Not sure what to bring so . . . what equipment should I bring?

    April 6, 2013

    • Michael M.

Bring digital or film camera. I will be shooting both. Mike

You should be proud that your courses are so popular, Mike. Maybe you should raise the price by 20%. ;)

Thanks Bob. My workshops at Laney are free at this point to promote education at Laney.

      I know; that was a joke. 20% of 0 is still 0. :)

    Hi Mike,
Any chance I can just come and learn
about the lighting. I don't need to
    shoot.

Thanks for everyone's input - I wondered if there was a setting I was not using. I appreciate that this meetup is extremely popular as I am not that tech savy. I appreciate that it is a very popular meetup. regards

From my experience, as a meetup organizer, there are no pre-registration options. It's all timing. I too, happened to be on my computer.

Hey All I posted the workshop late last night about 11pm. I know these workshops fill fast and more of you want to attend than possible. THis workshop is more limited because at this time I only have one model and we are using strobe. In order for everyone to sync with strobe we will have to rotate shooters. 15 photographers are a lot of people. I want to give all of you enough time and input with my workshops so that you can take home some technique and most all great shots. If I get another model I will open attendance to 20 members.

My workshop is a specific style and VINTAGE FASHION my wife and I are supplying for this shoot. I have 3-changes that fit Lisa. That is another factor is the model and wardrobe constraints.

Thanks for your input and interests everyone! Mike

Rich - I have the same problem. That's why I'm asking when Mike posted it. I know you can go into the notifications in your account to set up e-mail notifications - I have done this and set them appropriately. I also set my computer so that it feeds my e-mail notifications quicker. My e-mails come through to my phone. This is the one meetup I try to stay on top of but I can't figure it out. I don't know how you can pre-register?

    March 26, 2013

  • Rich W.

How did 16 people get ahead of me? Again? Obviously people are pre-registering.

Just a general question for Mike - what time did you post the above meetup. I got it at 11.26 pm last night.
