The theme, as announced at the April meeting: Choose an inspirational photo by a professional photographer. The photographer or photo doesn't have to be famous, just an example of an image that you would like to be able to capture. Look at the photo critically--technically, compositionally, emotionally--and then try to recreate it. For some more reading, check out this blog post by photographer Laurence Kim. This might be a good place to create a collage or diptych (the topic at the Feb meeting) to show the inspiration photo and yours side by side.
Here's the rundown on how the monthly meeting goes.
1. "Pick Three" slideshow:
Members are asked to submit 3 photos in advance of the meeting to share with the group. The photos are combined into a slide show. Then as the photos are presented you'll have an opportunity to introduce yourself and talk a little about your photos. The group also has an opportunity to offer up praise, constructive criticism, or ask questions about your pictures.
2. Technique Presentation and Discussion:
Each month, we will present a short (10-15 min) presentation on the monthly topic. After the presentation, we will take some time to engage the group about the topic and techniques and answer any questions. This is an opportunity for you to share your knowledge and experience too.
3. General Discussion:
When we are done sharing everyone's photos, we will open up the group to general discussion. This is where you can have your questions answered by a large diverse group of photographers. Sometimes we will continue the discussion over drinks nearby.

The week before the monthly meeting, we will reminding those of you who RSVP'd to submit your photos.
Where to submit your photos
To submit your photos post them to our Flickr group (http://www.flickr.com/groups/madphotomeetup/) and make sure to tag them "May2013Meeting" or they might get missed. For help posting to Flickr and to the group, see this thread from the discussion board.
What to take pictures of
As for the subject of your pictures, this is very open. The monthly techniques are intended to be somewhat of a homework assignment for you to practice over the following month, so submit these pictures if you were able to participate. Otherwise anything goes (but please keep it PG-13). If you have a picture you just love, send that. If you have a picture that didn't turn out right and you want help, submit that too. In the end, what is really important is that you just go out and shoot, and show us what you did.
When to take your pictures
The goal of this "show and tell" is to make sure people are getting out and taking pictures. So we would prefer if the pictures were taken since the last meeting. If you are new to the group, then by all means pick a few from your portfolio you are especially proud of, but we really want to encourage you to get out and shoot something new.
