Bill, thanks for organizing this event. with the weather forecast being so pessimistic, the large turn around was a testimony for the dedication and enthusiasm of those who did come. and i think moon did deliver, if only briefly.

Fun event, but the weather didn't cooperate. Moon came up above the clouds about 15 minutes after it should have. It came up over a crane instead of the Capitol building.

Meetup was great! Didn't get to see the Super Moon for long but when we did it was beautiful. Just wish it wouldn't have come up behind the construction crane. What's the chances of that huh!

It's mostly cloudy on the west side of Madison. I'm going there anyway, takin' my chances.

Is there maybe an alternate place east-siders could meet up? I don't know if I'm up for going out to PP if it'll likely be cloudy. I might have to reneg on my "yes" and wait and see what it's like in my 'hood.

You won't see the moon over the capitol from the east side.

Any word on the sky yet? I'm afraid we won't be able to see the moon. Oh, and I don't have a tripod. I'm using a Nikon[masked] zoom lens.

Hi... have a couple of high end Pentax lenses that I would like to try on another Pentax K series body... I suspect my K7 body is malfunctioning, but wish to confirm...looking for anyone with a Pentax k series digital camera that would meet with me and let me try my lens on their body.. thank you...

The moon is visible but, most likely, not from Madison.
There are photos already here: http://www.cnn.com/2013/06/23/world/gallery/supermoon/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Weather forecast says partly sunny for 8 p.m. and partly cloudy for 9 p.m. Accuweather says 34% chance of rain but weather.com says only 10% so I'm going with weather.com. Good news is both say 0% chance of snow!

Thank you very much Alfredo, for the links.
I have a question on the lens: I have Nikkor[masked]mm and Sigma[masked]mm. Which of the two would be better for Moon photo?
    Thanks.

    Degi,
For the moon itself 300 will be better. If there is some foreground- it will depend. But[masked] should cover the range nicely. Personally, if I do come I will bring[masked]

Moon rise will be at 8:50pm and the weather won't be nice.

    for the Nikon crowd:

    for the Canon crowd:
Not great but some good points, just watch the first 5 minutes

Entry level setting shutter speed and ISO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YJDKbuHSZk

    Point & shoot:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByMRi9D8X5c
    good points: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4dSlEs7pMM

Other useful stuff; WB should be cloudy and the metering mode should be spot, why? Cloudy - the light reflecting will look warmer.
Spot metering - your camera should meter the moon only so it will get more detail, the black around it will make your camera to over expose if you have your camera on (Canon) Evaluative, (Nikon) Matrix, etc., etc.

    Cheers
    Alfredo

Sounds GROOVY!!! Thanks Bill for organizing this!!!
I might advise bug spray, due to all the rain we've had it could be very buggy, but let's hope for a good breeze on the point to keep them away
