Chicago, Chicago; Photo Ops Galore

  • Oct 19, 2013 · 8:15 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

There is an architectural open house going on in the Windy City that weekend:

We'll meet at the Starbucks parking lot it is much more safer than the nearby Park & Ride. (Non-Members cannot see the location we're meeting).

From Starbucks we'll carpool to the train Station in Harvard, Illinois.

Planned Itinerary (most times are approximate):

Leave Madison 8:32 (time enough for pit stops) This is a firm time, we won't be waiting for stragglers.

Arrive in Harvard around 10:00

Train leaves Harvard at 10:30

Arrives at Clybourn Station at 12:15

Bus to Lincoln Park; arrive at 12:30 Bus route 73 We'll meet our host from Chicago there, as well as another member of our Meetup Group that has a sibling in Chicago.

Sunset in Chicago is at 6:02 PM.

Photo ops until 6:15

Dinner 6:30 This is a firm time as well,  our host from Chicago is meeting her husband there.

The restaurant is very near Millennium Park, home of Cloud Gate or The Bean as it is referred to.

Photo ops until 8:00

Bus to Ogilvie Transportation Center route 124, 60, or 157

Train at OTC 8:30

Arrive in Harvard 10:30

Return to Madison at 12:00

Here's a link to the menu at the restaurant (The Corner Bakery) we'll have dinner at:

I'm limiting this to 8 people unless there is an overwhelming response and many people on the wait list.

I'm planning on packing a lunch to eat on the train, but if a majority opt for lunch in Chicago, i'll do the same. Please answer all three questions when you RSVP.

I'm staying the duration, but if half the people want to leave earlier another driver must be willing to leave early.

Cost: Plan on about $6.00 for gas for the carpool driver (based on 4 occupants per vehicle, your cost may vary). $7.00 for the Metra train pass (good all weekend), $2.25 per ride for the CTA bus(es). Looks like we could get by for around $15 - $20 for the dinner at The Corner Bakery.

Deadline to RSVP will be 6:00 PM Friday, October 18th.

Perfect. It was an enjoyable train ride to the Windy City. Nice group of members to hang with and spend the day. We had a fantastic "tour guide" from Chicago. The weather cooperated for the most part. Only one problem. I've got over 300 photos to sort through.

We had a change of plans! I won't be in the city on Saturday anymore. I'll be out in the suburbs all day that day.

My final plan: I will meet you all at the train in Harvard on Sat. morning, but then I will be spending the night in the city with my sister. Excited!

What equipment do you recommend for this outing? I'm assuming a tripod would be good to have? I have one lens so that'll have to do for me... :>) This sounds like a really fun outing!

Hi Cheryl, I took the photos above in February. I was with a group celebrating a friend’s birthday. They were not photographers. I only hand held my camera. I had along my Nikon 17-55mm f2.8 lens. I had to increase the ISO to hand hold. Since this Meetup is for photographers, I do recommend a tripod.

I'll be down in the city that day anyway, so I might be able to come meet up with you guys.
