Backstage Tour - Overture Center for the Arts

UPDATE

The Overture Center has agreed to do TWO tours with a max of 20 people per group. The tour is approximately 1 1/2 hours. We will be walking and climbing stairs as we are lead through the Overture Center. The tour will be guided by people from the Overture Center.

Additional information that you will want to know:

Flash photography is allowed, but there may be areas where it will not be permitted and the tour guide will let us know.

Tripods are allowed but not recommended. There will be a fair amount of walking and climbing of stairs - think about whether or not you want to haul around your tripod for an hour and a half.

Thanks Steve for organizing the meetup.
It was a lot of fun being with 30 people taking pictures. We are so lucky to have a place like the Overture with all its history and great architecture.

a tripod is a must - competing to maintain low iso and high depth of field because of low light conditions

    • Donna

Agree. Most of my photos have a little bit of a blur to them. I will have to play with them in PSE.

Still unsure what lenses to bring. I have kit lens 18-55 and a telephoto. What will work for the event?

    January 31, 2014

    • Angelina

I volunteer there and bags are usually fine for tours. Just no beverages other than bottled water.

      January 31, 2014

    • Bill

I'm going to bring my speedlight, my 17-55 f/2.8 and my nifty 50 f/1.4

      February 1, 2014

  • Eileen W.

Sorry for the late notice but I will not be able to be there tomorrow morning. See you all when I get back from S.E. Asia in mid-March!

    January 31, 2014

    • Bill

Enjoy your trip Eileen, take a lot of pictures.

      February 1, 2014

See you all at 9:45 AM (in the morning) at the Overture Center) - do not be late, we will not hold the tour for anyone who is late.

I have given up my spot. Came down with the flu. Have fun all!

  • Marla F.

What lens would you recommend for this event? Would I need an external flash?

    January 30, 2014

    • Ryan M.

Marla, I'm bringing a 10-20mm lens and an external flash. I'll probably bring at least one other lens, but haven't decided which one yet.

      January 30, 2014

    • Steven B.

Please remember, there will be portions of the tour where flash will NOT be permitted.

Hey Steve, I saw a couple people had to drop out - I'm on the waitlist and just wondering if there was a spot for me?

    January 29, 2014

    • Steven B.

Stephanie, as soon as a person changes the RSVP to NO, the system picks the next person in line and changes their RSVP to YES and will send them an email. There have been a number of people changing their RSVP, and there may be more. There is still hope.

    January 28, 2014

  • Karen S.

I have to give up my spot to someone on the waiting list. Just found out that my tenants are moving out, and will be showing my apartment. Sad to miss this!!

I am sorry you cannot make the meetup

      January 27, 2014

I'm not sure how or where to ask a question to the group, but I'll try here . I bought Lightroom 5 and I need some help getting started editing pictures from a Newborn photo shoot I did today . I live in Madison and wondered if anyone would be interested in helping me.

    January 26, 2014

    • Alfredo

self taught; I have been shooting for a while and I used many software programs to work on my photos. Lr is not feature rich as Photoshop, DxO Optics Pro, or Capture One Pro so there is less to learn (I use all of them depending on what I want to do). Lr is still a good place to start to take your photos to the next level. For organizing my photos I use Canto Cumulus the single user version, I find it to be better. I put some of my photos in Flickr but I take them down after a while - don't like to have too many up there, as a matter of fact, I am due to take some down soon. These are the most current ones I have in flickr: http://www.flickr.com...

      January 26, 2014

    • Alfredo

To keep it simple: organizing = create Quick collections based on some criteria that you choose, tag and rate all your photos. For editing - Do white balance, Lens corrections, Exposure and contrast, the latter is very important, balance Highlights, Shadows, Whites, and Blacks, add Clarity and Vibrance. These adjustment will make your RAW photos look a lot better. If you don't have a monitor that has been color calibrated then what you see on the screen won't be exactly what you get when you print on your home printer, etc.
