As the days get longer and the nights warmer, our thoughts turn to...night photography! Join us for our July monthly meeting.
Topic Presentation and Discussion:
If photography is "the art or process of producing images of objects on photosensitive surfaces," then night photography is one of the trickiest--yet most rewarding--techniques to try. Co-organizer Bill, our own innovator in light painting, will talk about how to work with long exposures to capture light painting in impressive ways. This is also a great technique to try out on fireworks!
As a bonus, co-organizer Katie, a star-trails enthusiast, will give us a quick overview of her tips for photographing the night sky. Then keep your eyes on our meetup calendar for her (and Bill's) next meetups!
"Pick Three" Member Slideshow:
But before we get to their presentation, we'll run thru our "Pick Three" slideshow of pictures from members like you!
About a week before the meeting, you will be asked to submit up to 3 photos to share with the group (please keep it PG-13). You'll have an opportunity to introduce yourself and talk a little about your photos. Don't worry, this is not a public critique. We're a friendly group who loves to look at and talk about photos as much as you do. And don't be shy, even if this is your first meeting--we want to see your photos!
Please upload your images to our Flickr group and tag them "July2014Meeting."
YOUR HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT FOR THIS MEETING: For the July monthly meeting slideshow, your challenge is to think about design and composition in your images. At the June meeting, co-organizer Steven talked about lines, points of view and geometric shapes to create stunning images.
Sometimes we continue the discussion over coffee or drinks nearby.
Let's meet at the Atomic Koi Lounge, at the corner of Fish Hatchery and Lacy Road--2685 Research Park Drive. If you can't make the meeting, feel free to meet us at the lounge around 8:30 pm.
Monthly meetings are the heart of our Meetup group. They are held on the first Thursday of the month. We don't take photos at this meeting, but we share our favorite shots from the last month and learn a new technique to work on for the next month. The topic discussed at the monthly meeting then becomes your homework for the member slideshow at the next monthly meeting.
So join us! Meet people who share your love for photography, learn something new, and make some new friends!
