Photo Scavenger Hunt - Olbrich Botanic Gardens

We will meet outside the main entrance of the Olbrich Botanic Gardens at 1:15 PM on Sunday, July 20.

You will be given a list of words. Your task will be to create photographic images that express the meaning of those words. You will have one (1) hour to shoot images. We will then reconvene at the main entrance of the Gardens to share our images and talk about the words.

There are 16 acres of outdoor gardens featuring stunning landscapes and midwest-hardy plants. There is also the Bolz Conversatory (there is a charge to enter the conservatory) and the poplar Thai Pavilion. Just north of the gardens is a great building with lots of graffiti - but it is marked "No Trespassing", but that has not stopped a few us.

The Olbrich Botanic Gardens has a parking lot with plenty of free parking.

If you would like to take the challenge of this Scavenger Hunt, here are the instructions:

Capturing images (digital or film) is about telling a story. Your challenge today is to capture images that tell a story. You must use at least 10 images but you may not use more than 15. Your story should have a beginning, middle and end.
The words below are guidelines to direct you in the development of your story.
    Simple
    Gold
    Pensive
    Expansive
    Lush
    Sparse
    Ursine
    Meticulous
    Pachyderm
    Feline

To help you get started, here are sentences to get you going.
"He tried to remember who had talked him into this."
"It had just been here, and now we couldn't find it."
"They crinkled their noses, wondering what could make that smell."
"She had been warned, but now it was too late."
"It was the scariest thing she had ever seen."

Steve..just an FYI incase you are not aware. Olbrich gardens have lot of marriages in summer weekends. On those occasions they put a board outside requesting hobby photographers to come another time. I assume you might have already checked with the garden authorities.

This sounds like a fun event. One point to remember is that Olbrich Gardens does not allow tripods. Starting July 13th, the Gardens' annual event, "Blooming Butterflies" gets underway in the Conservatory. As mentioned above, there is a charge to get in. It is $7 for adults and worth it. Garden members get in free.

thanks for posting that link, jiju! i would never have known that list of rules even existed, and no doubt would've gotten in trouble for shooting "posed" photos at some point.
