WorldWide Photo Walk

#*#*#*#*#*# Due to the inclement weather we will be starting the walk at the Monona Terrace, on the roof. This will minimize any extraneous walking in the rain, while still hopefully allowing us to get some great shots

## Watch the photowalk website for up to the minute details about the walk

I am leading the worldwide photo walk for Madison, WI and I hope that you all will be able to join me as well.

Details can be found below, and please sign up here:

________________________________________________________
The Madison Worldwide Photo Walk in conjunction with the Madison Photography Meetup group. I am the organizer for the Madison Photography meetup group, and I will be merging these two groups together for an epic photo walk that will take in a unique event, and several iconic Madison scenes. Start with a viewing of the Color me Rad 5k fun run, a color bomb race where runners are hit with different colored powders along the course, which should provide for some unique pictures. This will be followed by a walk along the lake shore path to view beautiful lake Mendota to the Monona Terrace. From there we will head up to the square to take in the sights and sound that is the Dane County farmers market. After the walk we will meet at the Old Fashioned to share a drink, stories, pictures, and hopefully a bit of knowledge.

This is a once a year opportunity where a large portion of Madison’s photographic talent will be in one place. This is a great opportunity to share knowledge and ideas with photographers of all different skill levels.

The start point and the beginning of the route are subject to change once I get some more details about the race route.

I'm sorry I missed everyone. My boyfriend and I were running late and couldn't find the group so we wandered around downtown and had our own little walk. I saw lots with cameras and said Hi to a few even but didn't recognize anyone from the Meetup Group. Even went to the Old Fashioned at 1:00 but didn't see anyone there either. Hopefully next time I will actually be a part of the group!! My own bad for being late. Hope everyone had fun!!!

Just an FYI, there is an official Google+ page for this event where you can upload five photos a day for more exposure of your work. You can find it here: https://plus.google.com/events/cdp43iqtjph1qfci7e2jinq59eg

Just curious, if it rains or storms will that affect the plans?

I will continue to monitor the weather. If it looks like a certain part of the day will be much better I might consider moving the event. The other thing I might do is shorten/alter the route if it is raining. Otherwise the walk will go on as planned. A decent umbrella should be enough to keep your gear dry. Otherwise there are many diy methods out there for waterproofing your camera.

i am going to try and get to this one i am pretty much a novice and wondering the best lens for this i have d90 with[masked] kit lens and[masked]mm 1.4 and 20 2.8 any suggestions?

I tried doing the first Wolrdwide Photowalk with one lens;[masked]mm and I missed wide shots, in another local photowalk I decided to take a 24-70mm lens because of my previous experience and I wished I had the[masked]mm to get closer. These days I take one or two wide angle and one zoom lens. My suggestion is take the[masked]mm and the[masked]mm.

If I am doing some kind of a walk where I don't want to miss anything, ie on vacation, i usually bring my[masked] and I almost never wish I had something else. For something like this where I want to try and be a bit more creative (you're going to be shooting from the same place as 50+ people) and push my self I take a single prime lens. This year I plan on taking my rokinon 85mm 1.4 (highly recommended if your looking for soemthing). Taking one focal length can force you to think more about what you taking, and I find I get better more creative shots this way.

Don't forget to sign up at the website. There is a competition, both locally and nationally, and I believe you need to be register for the walk to be able to submit photos.
