Please suggest some places around Madison which have some tall hills for sunrise photography. Willing to travel in a 45 mile radius. I recently tried my luck @ Yahara Heights County Park and got some decent hots. Now looking looking for sunrise+Hills or Sunrise+Rocky Hills combination.

Also some times the sun turns white very quickly and some times its just a big beautiful orange ball, anyway to predict sunrise color.

I can think of couple of places in and near Madison,
Pheasant Branch Conservancy
There is a hill (map above is centered) there 20 minutes hike. You can checkout the photos on google maps.

Pope farm conservancy
gives the direction and time of sunset or sun rise, so you can plan ahead.

Devil's lake is another place.

Kettle Moraine southern unit have a tower you can climb on

Blue mound state park also have a tower

Indian Lake Park is just north of Madison and has a smaller lake that can be really calm at times. http://www.countyofda...

Vilas Park has had some stunning mornings recently with the cooler night temps and lots of mist above the water. Very nice!
