"
REGI and Linwood Springs team up to release three Snowy Owls on Monday, March 31 at 6:30-7:00: PM.
Linwood Springs Research Station has partnered up with Project Owlnet to study the historic Snowy Owl irruption of 2013-2014, called Project SnowStorm. This is a collaborative research effort by many independent researchers, and organizational partners. This past winter more than 20 snowy owls were tagged with solar powered GPS transmitter in northeastern U.S. including 4 by us in Wisconsin. GPS locations are recorded every 30 minutes and stored on the transmitters. Then every 3 days, those locations are sent to us via cell phone towers, allowing very detailed data on the bird’s winter habits and migration route. The transmitters can store up to 100,000 locations when the bird is out of cell coverage.

Direction to the release site: From Stevens Point, travel a few miles north of Stevens Point on I 39 take Hwy 10 west, travel about 28 miles and take the first exit into Marshfield on Hwy 13 north, travel about 3/4 mile to E 34 th Street, turn east (right) on E 34 th Street, travel to the first intersection, South Mallard Ave. Meet at the intersection of E 34 th Street and South Mallard Ave.
Hope to see you there. Gene
