Hi! This group is for those of us wanting to improve our photography skills. Whether you want to just take better photos of your family, are a hobbyist wanting to learn more about advanced technique, or even thinking about starting a photography business, this group is for you!
The goal of this group will be to get together with specific learning objectives then to practice what we’ve learned. Practice is the key to becoming better photographers and doing so as a group is a great way to do it. Topics will range from beginner to advanced. These include, but are not limited to, general camera functions, understanding exposure, natural and artificial lighting, themed topics and techniques, post processing, etc.
We are currently redesigning the format of the group and it's learning activities. The new plan should allow us to hold several meetups a month. I would like to see many different topics covered on a revolving schedule and in multiple locations around Houston. This will allow our members to find a convenient date, time, and location to attend. I feel this is an important attribute that will benefit each member.
There will be at least two types of meetups. Knowledge-Building and Skill-Building. Knowledge-Building meetups will consist of structured classes in a comfortable environment followed by small hands on learning activities that will help strengthen our understanding of the information. Skill-Building meetups, by comparison, will be group projects/activities that will allow us to practice our skills in more detail. All meetups are designed to be fun and very informative.
Please read the full description of each meetup. The description will explain which skills you should obtain by attending.
Classes and learning activities are designed to build upon each other. Some meetups (especially Knowledge-Building) will list prerequisite learning that should be completed prior to attending. It will be expected that you already have this knowledge prior to attending the class. If needed, you should be able to find a scheduled Knowledge-Building meetup that will cover the recommended prerequisite. Please respect this guideline as it provides the most effective learning environment for everyone.
This group should allow each of us to meet new friends with similar interests in a fun environment and grow our skills at the same time. We want this group to feel like home and encourage input/suggestions/participation/etc. from all members.
If you share an excitement to learn, practice, and improve your skills, will you join us?
