Mystery Castle at the foothills of South Mountain

There's really no secret about Phoenix's Mystery Castle. Young Mary Lou Gulley wanted a castle more permanent than those she built at the beach, and her father wanted to give her one. Boyce Luther Gulley, who came to Arizona in hopes of curing his tuberculosis, built his daughter's dream 18-room castle of stone, adobe, automobile parts and petroglyphs held together by cement.  This three-story castle, completed in 1945, is made of stone, adobe, automobile parts and petroglyphs and is held together by a cement mixture including goat's milk.

Mystery Castle Address:
800 E. Mineral Road

The Farm was a peaceful retreat, had a great breakfast and conversation with nice people. The Castle was was a quirky hovel and totally interesting!! Got some great shots and had lots of fun! Thank you, Katherine, for organizing this wonderful morning for all of us!!

Mystery Castle was pretty good, but not a lot of good photo opportunities inside the castle as it was cluttered with stuffed cat toys and dolls. Best shots are outside the castle.

On the way to the castle, I stopped at the store to pick up another memory card (my second memory card malfuntioned), and my car battery died. Just got home after AAA came and jumped me. Sorry I missed you all at the castle, I was looking forward to finally seeing it. I hope you all had a good time.

Darn! I was wondering where you were. Going to have to make the castle another time.

Enjoyed the breakfast and getting to know many of the new members. The conversations were so good that I forgot to notice that the food was delicious. The Farm was very accommodating with our large group.

Yes, I'll be joining you for breakfast. I couldn't get that "Outlook"

    Looking forward to it :)

For our meetups we have RSVP's to help us coordinate the planning. The Mystery Castle, I am sure doesn't mind everyone showing up. But The Farm does. Especially since Katherine went through the trouble of setting it up and making reservations with the RSVP list. We cannot prevent anyone from going to a restaurant, but when you are hosting or organizing an event it makes it difficult on us to just show up when reservations are being coordinated with the restaurant. Also, we are trying to be fair to those who had to join the waiting list and are patiently waiting. Lastly, everyone keep in mind that we rely on the RSVP list. If you know you are not going, please un-RSVP as soon as possible. Thanks everyone :)

    Hi Katherine,
When I originally did my R.S.V.P. and was on the waiting list, I stated I wanted to attend the breakfast. I just wanted to make sure I was put on the list.
    Thank you
