Fall Foliage Finale Festival Thanksgiving Weekend At Boyce Thompson Arboretum

Let's catch the last of the fall colors at Arizona's Fall Foliage Finale at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum.

The famous grove of Chinese pistachio trees typically begins to show the first shades of harvest gold, pumpkin orange and burgundy red in mid-November, and peak color is typically around Thanksgiving Weekend and lasting until the first or second week or December.

The annual Fall Foliage Finale Festival Thanksgiving weekend November 24 and 25 includes live music played by Scott Schaefer and Scott Simon sharing the stage as "Celestial Misfits" both days, with performances between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. We also have hot spiced cider and arts and crafts vendors.

Learn more at their website: http://ag.arizona.edu/bta/whatsnew/fallfoliage.html

Agenda:

BTA opens at 8:00 am (for those early risers) but we will be meeting at 9:00am.

9:00 AM Meet group in front of the BTA for meet and greet.

9:00- 11:00 We will venture into the arboretum. I will be leading a group counter clockwise on the trail.

11:00 - 11:30 Regroup at the stage where the Celestial Misfits are performing. (exact location TBD)

11:30-12 ish - for those interested in lunch we will head to Superior for lunch at Jade Asian BBQ http://jadegrillasianbbq.com

Carpooling: If you are interested in carpooling please use the comments section to make those arrangements. It is a pretty good drive so it might be a good idea to caravan or carpool.

Cost: Adult Admission is $9 for adults, $4.50 for ages 5 to 12; children under age five are admitted free.

BTA- also offer photography workshops. It is my understanding that there are NOT being offered on this date. - Professional photographers will teach participants how to shoot Fall color during special workshops. I really enjoyed this meetup. I have never seen the fall foliage at BTA (and I used to be a member). I did not realize I could see this much color so close to Phoenix..Well done Meetup event!

A terrific outing and very well organized. The live music and the restaurant was a very nice finish to the event. I stayed to photograph the Apache Leap mountain overlooking Superior.

Not a lot of the fall colors - but plenty to take photos of. Good to meet some new members and see some regulars.

An enjoyable get-together, but the leaves needed a little more time to mature.

Hi guys. I did get there much later than I thought. My riding lesson went about 20 minutes over because the lesson before me started late. So I didn't get to BTA until closer to noon. So I did not look for the group, I figured you would all be heading off to lunch. But mom and I had a great time and I can't wait to upload my pics.

There was not much for color as yet. A little disappointed since the shoot was to capture the change in color.

Hi guys. My riding lesson got pushed back to 930 so I changed my RSVP. I'm still going, but I will not get there until 1030 or so. Which means that I will only be with the group for about 30 minutes or so before y'all head for lunch. It makes no sense to hold up an RSVP for that. So if someone wanted to go, there is another spot. But, my mom and I should still be wandering the garden if anyone wants to come back after lunch.

Does anyone know how long the drive is from the North Valley

    November 23, 2012

    • Dick

Bill, Google maps show about 1.5 hours and 75 miles from 7th st and Thunderbird

All, my horseback riding lesson is at 830 and I will be picking up my tag-a-long shortly after that. So we will NOT be there at 9 am. More like 10 am. Please do not wait for us. I will look for a large group carrying nice camera's. Please look for two women (me and my mom). One will be holding a camera and bag, both will probably be wearing ball caps. Kathering, if you could let me know which loop trail you will be on, we will start down that one.

Not sure of the name. I will be heading to the windmill and old house/truck first.

Hey all, me again, lol. I posted a contest announcment in the discussion forum and then thought that was silly. Here is the link to a contest that closes about a week or so after this event. I thought it was fitting.

That is pretty cool! and great timing. Thanks for sharing... we will all have to enter our pic's from this shoot.

Also, I may not join y'all for lunch. My ride-a-longs LOVE LOVE LOVE the arboretum, so we may stay all day and bring lunch along. So if anyone wants to bring lunch, the arboretum have a nice table set up under some type of porch structure. The shop does not do lunch or a lot of drinks, so y'all may want to bring drinks, lots of drinks. But you can get some kind of hand stamp and go to your vehicles for lunch. We usually just put cold cuts, drinks, and fruit in a cooler and leave in the car with lots of ice. If anyone wants, I can try and grab a couple of tables together and hold spaces. If not, hopefully everyone comes back after lunch. FYI - allergy sufferers will want to bring clariten or whatever. I could have sold my bendedryl for $10 a pill last fall, lol.

I may, or may not, be a wee bit late. I have my Horseback riding lesson on Saturdays and, so far, they are at 645 in the am. If it gets colder, they may be moved back. So, please do not wait for me at the entrance if I am late. I will get my ride-a-longs settled and then look for a large group of people with cameras, lol.

Is the 0900 time to meet at the BTA or somewhere here to drive there?

    November 4, 2012

  • Tammy

Hi Katherine, if this event stays on this Saturday, my mother, 3 nephews and my grandmother may tag along. They will do their own thing while we do ours and just check in occasionally with me. And I promise that they will not bother anyone. Is that okay?

    October 28, 2012

    • Katherine

Absolutely- you can bring tag alongs. Please just RSVP for 1 so that other spots remain open for members.

This sounds like fun. My mother would totally like to come on this one. The B.T.A. is one of her favorite places.
