I am a passionate fine art photographer in love with the landscape. I have also been fortunate to be able to turn that passion into a profession as a commercial photographer and educator.
This is not your typical group shoot social Meetup group. My intentions are to help you by sharing my many years of commercial and fine art photography knowledge and experience. My Meetups always include an educational component designed to help you improve your photography. Frequently, the event also includes some video tutorials that I have prepared to help expand on the topics.
I have been fortunate to be able to turn that passion into a profession as a commercial photographer and educator. I shoot both film (and still have my darkroom) and digital.
My experience includes over forty years of professional and fine art photography. More importantly perhaps as an organizer I have been teaching workshops for forty years. My teaching experience includes being on the faculty of The Ansel Adams Workshops, The Friends of Photography, The Victor School, Art Center College of Design, UC Santa Cruz Extension, Otis Art Institute and UC Irvine Extension and more. I have also lead my own workshops and seminars for that same amount of time including lecturing nationally on large format photography and lighting techniques.
Our landscape trips: Unless otherwise noted our landscape excursions and workshops will be to locations that I am very familiar with and where I have photographed and taught many times before. While I will share my knowledge of these locations with our group my events will go far beyond "photo shoots" and into the area of helping you grow your photography skills and vision. While each group dynamic is different with photographers of different skill levels, some wanting more, some wanting less attention, generally speaking our time will be spent in a mix of demonstrations and ample time to explore and photograph, practicing your skills and what I may have discussed and/or demonstrated. There is no point in going to distant locations unless we are all free to explore and photograph on our own so in that context I will be a travel guide but one who will always be close by to help my attendees with any questions that they may have. I walk a fine line of being available during your shooting time without being a pest! Consequently, you will usually find me either close to you or near the car. In both cases I carefully position myself so that you can easily locate me if you want assistance.
I have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to be mentored by some significant photographers and excellent, caring instructors. My intentions are to pass on that courtesy to my students.
I hope you come along!
PS. I am always willing to hear from you so feel free to contact me with ideas or questions and even criticisms. You can email me through Meetup or directly at Rick@rickrosen.com
