Thursday Night ride on the Greenbelt

This is a fun ride that winds around Tempe Town Lake up the greenbelt in south Scottsdale and back. Most of it is off road (but paved sidewalk) and is about 15 miles roundtrip. Our pace varies with our ridership; I would consider it moderate for an active person. We normally finish in about an hour so I'm guessing 12-15mph. We do stop and regroup periodically so you won't be left behind. Road or mountain bikes work.

Chronic Cantina closed recently so we'll be trying a few different places until we find one that suits us; so watch for updates each time for this ride. If you're not familiar with the area, you might want to arrive a little early to find parking; more info below. Since we have bikes, parking a block or two away shouldn't be an issue for us, right? I normally park in a large lot on the NW corner of W 5th St and S Ash Ave... just west of the RR tracks. Another cool thing is this is very near light rail stop at 3rd and Mill so you can take the light rail from anywhere along the route.

Tempe recently installed a lot of new meters that accept credit cards and pay by phone. These new meters are now active until 10pm and you can recognize them by flashing red or green lights (indicating expired/non-expired). The old style manual meters aren't monitored after 6pm. More info on parking in Tempe

Although it may be light at the start of the ride, it's best to bring a headlight and tail light for visibility as the sun goes down. Although the greenbelt is lit pretty well, if you are unfamiliar with the route a light may help you.

Please try and be at the location a few minutes early so that you have time to unload your bike and be ready to ride at departure time - we'll wait 5 minutes for those that RSVP yes. Call if you're going to be later and we'll figure the best course of action. Jim -[masked]

Thanks everyone! Good company, temps were great, there weren't too many bugs and I didn't take out any animals/pedestrians on the bike path. Other than poor service at Cornish Pasty, a fantastic evening!
