Should be a PERFECT night for this. Moonrise is supposed to occur around 6:30pm and we found a perfect spot to watch. As an added bonus, the wildflowers in the park are crazy good right now with all the precip we had earlier this year.
The hike out isn't too strenuous if you are a frequent hiker but it does have quite a few uphill segments; it's WAY more than just a walk in the park. Just under 2 miles to reach our picnic area and we'll stop and at least watch the moon rise maybe 30 minutes to an hour at that location before starting back.
Bring whatever you would like to consume... suggestions are cheese and crackers, fruit, vegetables, beef jerky, chocolate, rice crispie treats, pork rinds, pea soup, caviar, bucket of chicken (original recipe), pizza, pickles, olives, cottage cheese, sushi, edamame, donuts, chili, chicken and waffles, pop tarts, twinkies, tacos, cheetos, chili-cheese dog, cream of wheat, white castle, etc.. Of course, no glassware or breakables but juice boxes and plastic cups are fine. Be cautious... grape juice can ferment if left too long in the container!
You all probably already know how to get to Dreamy Draw Park... most online map programs don't give very good directions at all for this location. To keep it simple, here are your directions, from SR-51, go East on Northern Avenue until you reach the parking lot. Easy!
Note that this IS a hike, but the area can also be reached by mountain bike for those with intermediate+ technical skills.
Also, if you WANT to branch off from the main group and make it a more of a workout, there is an alternate route that will add maybe half a mile and is much more hilly/strenuous/scenic. I can provide directions on where to go.
