North Central Canal Ride - 11 miles - moderate pace

  • October 24, 2013 · 6:45 PM

This ride is out and back and we'll stop to re-group so don't worry about falling behind. It's along the canal, so the route is very flat. The ride is about 5.5 miles each way so it should be easily doable in around an hour (with re-group stops we're normally back by 8pm).

Road bikes, mountain bikes and hybrids are all fine. There is about a 30 yard gravel backtrack to get to the paved path....so if your bike tires are really skinny, you may want to walk that little bit.

Here's the route.

Meet in the Moto parking lot, we'll ride to I-17 along the Canal. Only one very minor road crossing... the rest are tunnels under the roads so no worries. The path is NOT lit very well so a light for visibility is a good idea. You may want something brighter if your night vision isn't great or you like to ride fast.

The owner of Moto is giving us an awesome special... any rice and chicken bowl for $5.99 just for our group on this ride! And, of course, they have AWESOME BEER on tap as well as a full bar with everything else. SAKI BOMBER!

Please try to arrive a few minutes early so you can be unloaded and ready to ride at Go time! We'll wait 5 minutes for those RSVP'd as 'Yes'. If you're going to be late, please call and we'll work out the details -[masked]

Great ride. My first ever with a group and just getting up to pace after an injury. The other riders were wonderful

Sorry, a broken spoke on the freewheel side puts me out of action for a day or so. Old Miyata with old Ukai wheels. Have to track down a Shimano freewheel remover.
