Who would have thought that 7 years ago when this site was created, we would still be around. Lots of other groups have come and gone, but we've managed to keep riding along.
Every year we have an anniversary ride and end someplace where we can eat. But the last few years it's been tougher and tougher to find a place big enough to feed all of us. A couple of years ago, one place even cancelled at the last minute!
Jackson made a great suggestion .. why not just do another picnic?? This isn't like the November picnic though, you have to bring your own food!
But John Fox will be at the meetup spot with his truck and some coolers cooled with dry ice. Everyone is welcome to put their goodies (in well marked containers of course) in the cooler. He'll take the coolers, some charcoal, and some sodas and water and head to South Mountain. Since we won't be providing food, and we usually make extra money on the fall picnic, there is no cost for this.
Meanwhile, Slo-Poke will lead the group on a two hour ride out west of town down the Sun Valley Parkway, then head back along MC-85 and baseline to South Mountain. It's 95 miles, so I think most everyone can make it. There are gas stations just outside of South Mountain for those that will need a fill-up before heading home.
John will get the grills ready and waiting so those that want to cook something can have at it. Probably. If things get timed well. If not, you might have to wait 10-20 minutes for things to heat up. No guarantees on that part, it's hard enough just getting everyone to leave a meetup on time!
It takes about 40 minutes to go up and down the mountain. We'll decide later if the group will do it before heading to the picnic area.
The picnic will be at what is called the, "Little Ramada". It's the first right past the Park Headquarters.
