Mid-Month Short Social: "The School" by Daniel Barthelme

Because several of our members have asked for it, we're trying something new: a second meetup per month. At our mid-month Short Socials we'll get together, hang out, and discuss a short story.

RULES:
• No discussing the regular book during the Short Social
• Chosen shorts do not have to be award winners, but they DO have to be available for free online.

NOTE:
• We're at a different location and (slightly later) time than our regular meetings.

Since the date is only a week away, let's go for a super short one: "The School" by Daniel Barthelme (http://www.npr.org/programs/death/readings/stories/bart.html).

Here's what FlavorWire says about this little ditty:
"Though Barthelme is known for his playful, postmodern style, we admire him for his ability to shape a world so clearly from so few words, chosen expertly. Barthelme never over explains, never uses one syllable too many, but effortlessly leads the reader right where he wants her to be. It’s funny, it’s absurdist, it’s sad, it’s enormous even in its smallness. It may be this writer’s favorite story of all time. You should read it."

Hope to see you next week!

I had trouble hearing, being on one end of the table. Otherwise, short and interesting.

Crap! I kinda forgot to read it! Good thing it's only 1,000 words. Anyone who hasn't yet read, if you have 15-20 minutes, you can still knock it out! Hope to see many of you at 7 tonight!

Glad you like the idea, Mike. But I take absolutely no credit. It wouldn't happen without enthusiastic members!
