Hi all, I have played Bunco with the Elks, the Red Hatter Chapters and a non-named group of ladies in Thurston Cty, for the last few years.
What day of the week works best for you? Wednesday is good except the fourth one of each month. First and third Wednesday is better.
Time, Location, etc.. etc.. Time already suggested works for me, but also depends on location selected.
How frequently do you plan to play? As often as I can but will definitely do an RSVP and let the group know if I cannot make it.
Do you want to play through the summer?? I'm ok with going through the summer if the group wants to play through.
I have never played Bunco where there were prizes instead of cash for the top winners and the Last place person. I am not comfortable with having the hostess decide on the "decorations" etc. since this would entail someone keeping a record of what is spent and how much is going toward the winnings. Not every hostess or even playing members can afford to "chip" in for the extra cost of decorations or other niceties. This is supposed to be a fun night out and not a competition. I would like it a whole lot better if the hostess would decide on a theme for the dinner/potluck/restaurant venue at the end of the evening, or future hostesses can decide before their month and leave it at that. If the hostess would like to decorate to the same theme, great but no one should be looked down on, if they don't. We can set up a list of each member who agrees to hostess, either at home or at a mutually agreeable location, for each month. They will coordinate the theme with the organizer of our group to get the word out for the details.
I think it would be wise to also have a "filler/sub" list. Lot's of times people cannot make every get together but will fill in if needed. This may be something some of the players would like to do.
I know it is fashionable to have wine, beer and other alcoholic libations for the guests but without being too much a of a prude, this is dangerous for us and local businesses. If we care and are going to sanction this, then we need to have a very strict designated driver rule. In this area I do believe we are our sisters and brothers keepers.
Usually prizes are divided up for Most wins, First Bunco, Most Buncos, Most binkies (little Buncos), Last Bunco and Most losses. These seem the most reasonable to me since it cuts through confusion for players who play with more than one group. Money is put in bag, basket, bowl or something and the hostess or other desginated person divides up the "dues" into pre-marked envelopes to give out at the end of the playing.
Scoring can be another sore point. Some folks like to score for the other team or for the whole table. This is ok as long as the score keeper pays attention and doesn't let points slip by. This is supposed to be honest and open so let's see where it goes.
So, don't seem shy about getting stuff right out there, huh? LOL I think the game is fun and can open doors to great friendships but we do need to have the ground work firmly in place. With that, my future friends, I will see you tomorrow night.
