I've spent the last several days getting most of our Winter events (17 of them) loaded on to the Meetup Calendar and I didn't want to fill up your inbox by announcing each one separately. So go to the calendar and check them out. I'll get the website updated next.
Less than a week to our BIG kickoff party and there are only 20 yes RSVP's out of our 246 meetup members, looks like I'm going to be driving home with a lot of raffle prizes. It's wrong to call them raffle prizes, they are actually DOOR PRIZES, you don't have to BUY any Tickets. You are given a ticket for being there, another for being a member, and another for each trip you sign up for, get the idea.
Our good friend Dennis from Viking Ski Shop will be there to give us a DEMO/TALK, not sure about what at this point but it could be boot fitting (which they are the best at), or the latest in skis, or how to take care of your equipment, or it could be anything else he is a very knowledgeable person. Regardless of what he talks about if you have ANY question about skiing, bring it, he will be happy to answer your questions.
Sorry, but all our Western trips this year will involve Baggage Fees but I have a solution that will take a little bit of the bite out of them. A double ski bag, I will have mine at the Kickoff Party (had it for about 10 years now) for you to take a look at and possibly order ($29), there is a minimum that we need to order. I've been doing this since they started with these Baggage Fees, the skis go in the bag and all my clothes, thereby padding the skis and I carry on my Boots and Helmet. This works unless you are a real clothes horse, of course the skis and clothes need to be under 50 pounds.
I feel like I failed a little bit. The last 2 years we have had a 5 night 4 ski day trip for $900. Talking with all the Travel Agents, Air Fares are $100 - $150 more than last year. Yes, there are some club trips out there for under $1,000 but check the number of nights and ski days. Of those that are 4 ski day trips they are flying in Denver which is cheaper than flying into Reno. I hope you like our choices.
The trip descriptions are not as nice as I would of like them to be (Pictures, links, Mountain Stats: acreage, vertical, snowfall, # high speed chairs, peak and base elevations, # of trails and % green, blue, black) just not enough time.
