Weekend Hack Shack Improvements and Kayak Building

We are still working on the shop and lab, but we are dedicating a good bit of time to just building cool stuff.  Nothing is cooler than water, and a kayak is about as close to water as you can get with at least some of your body still dry (kinda like Budweiser).   For this meetup, we will be re-lofting and patterning the kayak design we are currently building.  This is to perfect the templates we will use to make the kits for the Kayak Kynstruktyn event we will be hosting in a couple of months, as well as giving more members the opportunity to learn "lofting", or translating a design from paper to wood.  We will also be working on the demo kayak, and possibly starting Demo Hull #2.

This is our space to make, improve, and maintain.  Come and help us create a space that suits your needs, we have lots of projects to start & finish.

    List of activities:
First, Eric brought a guest, a neighbor formerly of Dayton Ohio. He's an aerospace guy, and when you are talking Dayton and airplanes, that means the real thing. I hope he can join officially and come by some time to teach us a little thing or two.
Marie Wilson Nelson dropped in to network for the Tampa Time Bank. Please check them out at http://tampabaytime.org/
David re-lofted the kayak design, and with Brian they cut out and faired Hull #2. Seriously good work guys.
Don and Sam each worked out a shape and design template for a kayak seat that pleased their eyes. We will use both of them (and maybe more) as templates for future builders to make their seats from.
Eric pushed out a coat of varnish on the desk, with Tina, Dylan and others helping pull outlets and tape off. Check out the pics!
Tina brought in a KILN! Too cool for school!

Y'all are doing seriously important work in so many areas. Thanks, Art, for the shout-out for the Tampa Bay Time Bank. This local currency --the TBT Hour--can support a lot of the work you're doing. I know there's a way to upload a file for those who are interested, but I don't see it so I'll just read it into another reply.

Tampa Bay Time is a coalition of people and groups who create abundance by connecting untapped resources with unmet needs. TBT is based on five core values: 1. Every person has something to offer. 2. Work must be redefined to include raising healthy children, strengthening families, revitalizing neighborhoods, strengthening local economies, making democracy work, advancing social justice, nurturing the spirit and making the planet sustainable. 3. Reciprocity: Helping works better as a two-way street. 4. Social Networks: We need each other. 5. Respect: Every human being matters equally.
TBT rewards unpaid work that the market ignores using “TBT Hours” created by doing the work. The concept is simple. Members help other members, earn one TBT Hour for each hour of service, swap these services from any other member and record exchanges in an online account. The more members and partner groups participate, the more friendships and wealth the community builds.

Oh yeah, and we started work on what is called a "Hank Drum" made from a propane tank. Search the name to see more.

What an evening of fun, desk is getting varnished, kayaks being built, space is coming together, what else could we ask for!
